One year on from @KemiBadenoch becoming leader, the Conservative Party is in a stronger, prouder place. 🔵
The 1922 Committee can now accept ‘letters’ - but few can doubt the clarity, strength, and integrity she’s brought.
A leader of unity, aspiration, and common sense. 🇬🇧

Bridget, telling lies is a breach of the Ministerial Code.
It's well known from your time as Education Secretary (before your demotion!) that you struggle with the truth.
As the then junior minister responsible for financial services regulation, I was not even remotely a 'co-author' of the mini budget. I did not see it until the night before.
I’m flattered that my decades of real-world business experience outside Westminster trigger so many Labour MPs. It’ll be useful when the next Conservative government has to clean up your mess!
(P.S. Mortgage rates are higher now than in 2022…)

Who in their right mind would seek to be an MP? This is nuts. He should have told the Commission to get stuffed.

A Labour chancellor called Healey grappling with the public finances amid fears of an economic collapse. Pressure from the right to slash spending, from the left to put the people before the bankers.
Sounds familiar? Well, actually I'm talking about 1976 not 2026 and Denis Healey, not John.
I suppose I couldn't have picked a better day to be transported back 50 years to watch The Gang of Three, a wonderful play in which Healey, Roy Jenkins and Tony Crosland 'clash over the soul of British socialism and their own relentless ambitions'.

I want you all to know this.
There are 650 MPs in Parliament. Yet the one MP chosen by @UKLabour to Chair the Bill Committee for the controversial, dangerous and dismally bad draft legislation, the Conversion Practices Bill, is Alex Barros-Curtis. Until July 2024, when Alex was given a very safe Labour seat in Cardiff, he was the Head of the Labour Party's Governance and Legal Unit in London. This was a department set up to investigate complaints against members of the Labour Party. Complaints of antisemitism, Islamophobia, abuse, and of course latterly, mostly women holding legally-protected 'Gender Critical' (sex realist) beliefs. Alex oversaw the investigation of hundreds of members who liked or tweeted gender critical or feminist views. I was one of them. He investigated me, as a sitting Labour MP, for 13 months.
13 months to 'investigate' one like of one tweet. I had a great lawyer, one of the names we're all now familiar with, and I had to crowdfund to pay for his (excellent) work.
They first tried in 2020. But the screenshots crudely attached to that passive aggressive, threatening-sounding email from LP admin staff were so risible that I replied that it was too ridiculous for me to waste my precious time on. They left it. Years of Starmer bumbling and stuttering through interviews about whether he had spoken to me, whether he supported me, etc followed. My feminist sins continued apace.
And then I 'liked' a tweet by my GC comedian friend @Glinner. He had mocked Eddie'Suzy' for comparing his choice to wear traditional women's clothing, fake plastic breasts and nails, to those being persecuted by the Nazis during WWII. I found his sarcasm, as a award-winning comedy writer in the face of such offensive narcissism amusing and so 'liked' it. I found it absurd and obscene that Izzard, an extremely privileged and wealthy man, who openly changed his 'gender' at will, should write himself into history falseley as someone who would have been oppressed due to a circumstance beyond his control. We all know the groups who were tortured, starved and killed...
There is obviously more to my story, I will tell it all, it's just one chapter of the years of spiteful abusive and bullying practices meted out to me by the Labour Party managers. Not those who'd achieved office on merit, or even unexpectedly, but those in the club, often having failed to be elected themselves.
So Barros-Curtis who we were repeatedly told led 'the many *independent* inquiries into women members and MPs like me, now often stands as a trans-rights activist on the Labour backbenches. He has also been gifted the role of Chair of this Committee and is a huge supporter of this Bill. And I am not a part of the Bill Committee, although plenty of TRA MPs are. Does that sound like the democratic scrutiny of legislation to you?

Sorry, this isn’t credible. If you want to be in the chamber for the budget, there’s always a way.

Defence not funded, welfare not cut, and borrowing continues to soar.
The @Conservatives have a plan for the future. Clearly @UKLabour do not.

Ahead of the Budget does Chancellor of the Exchequer John Healey agree with former Defence Secretary John Healey that we need to spend more on defence?
Will Labour take difficult but necessary decisions or kick the can down the road?

When Margaret Thatcher left Number 10 in November 1990, the UK's debt : GDP ratio was roughly 22%-26% (depending on the specific calculation). That was down significantly from around 42% to 43.6%, when she first took office in 1979.
Today, UK debt : GDP stands at roughly 95%.
You simply cannot tax Britain into prosperity.
Ahead of the Budget, @UKLabour has a choice: back those who work hard, save, invest, and build businesses... or punish ambition to fund an ever-growing state.
Britain needs a government that rewards success, not one that taxes it. Britain needs growth.

We got a furious response from the former Conservative minister Lord Michael Gove when we asked about his position on Israel at the Labour Conference.
Gove claimed he knew more about antisemitism than Zack Polanski, the only Jewish leader of a major political party in the UK. He also accused us of not being journalists and of an obsession with Israel, despite the Labour government's change in position on the occupation of Palestine being the key topic at this year's conference.
Gove now sits in the House of Lords and is editor of right-wing magazine The Spectator.

Today I was denied entry into the West Bank, alongside other parliamentary colleagues from across Europe as part of a @ProgIntl delegation.
We were held for 8 hours, interrogated and ultimately prevented from crossing the border.
I came to stand alongside Palestinians being attacked for harvesting olives on their own land. Instead, we were turned away, with no reason given.
More than ever, Palestinians are being subject to terror and violence by the IDF and illegal settlers. Increased blockades, demolitions and unthinkable violence have become the norm for Palestinians in the West Bank.
It is more important now than ever that we bear witness and show our solidarity.
But we were prevented from doing so.
I will continue to do everything I can to apply pressure on the Netanyahu government, and those responsible for the persecution and genocide of the Palestinian people.

Last year, I warned that water reserves at Wimbleball were critically low at 29%; today, they are 13%.
We haven’t taken water security seriously enough, and it is families and businesses that will suffer.
We must urgently expand and build new water storage.
Exclusive from @breeallegretti
Ministers have been secretly warned that some English reservoirs are at risk of running dry, hitting water supplies to homes in the run-up to Christmas
The government’s emergency committee, known as Cobra, is meeting up to twice a week to discuss the situation in the southwest of England and Sussex
A secret “reasonable worst-case scenario” was drawn up, anticipating that several reservoirs’ water stocks could fall to 0 per cent — dubbed “day zero” — within weeks
Officials warned that without action, supplies to some homes could be affected, along with disruption to the construction of a nuclear power station and operations at a prison
Wimbleball reservoir, which supplies more than 400,000 people in Somerset, has 13 per cent of its capacity, while Ardingly, which serves 280,000 customers across West Sussex, is at 17 per cent
