This Labour government must wake up and realise the hugely damaging consequences of their Family Farm Tax.
It actively disincentivises a farmer from investing in water storage, and building more on farm resilience in food production.
The government must get real if they are serious about food security and water security.
Their £15 million announcement to ‘help’ farmers build reservoirs, was nothing more than headline grabbing politics.

Oh the irony - you harvest a field to produce food and drink - then the consumer comes along and picnics in your field on such goods, leaving behind all the packaging 🤬😡🤬
Chickpeas - a crop that can take all the heat you can throw at it!
Very timely @RTKfarmer

We need a more constructive conversation.
This isn’t new support - it’s the re-opening of a scheme that was shut without warning. The budget will stretch to c.5000 agreements.
And without action on spiralling farm costs, there won’t be any crops for either food or feed.
Good news. But what a crazy world we live in, we’ve been paying farmers for decades to trash wildlife and the countryside, in the name of industrial food production - growing ever greater amounts of crops to feed to ever greater numbers of animals in factory farms - to achieve ever greater diminishing returns, nutritionally - as well as degradation of nature. A recent report from Compassion in World Farming makes this clear - if we stopped feeding the cereals we grow to animals and fed humans instead - we could feed 16 million more people using the same amount of land. We need to change what we chew. This new support is a welcome step.
