Today, I can announce we have secured a full independent grooming gangs inquiry across Keighley and the wider Bradford district. This is a watershed moment and marks a significant turning point in the pursuit of justice, truth and accountability for victims and survivors right across our area. It comes almost two decades after Anne Cryer first had the courage to raise this issue in Parliament. The inquiry will be fully independent of Bradford Council. It will focus on examining failures in local and national safeguarding systems, evidence handling, institutional accountability, and investigate the role of ethnicity, race and culture, and allegations of systematic abuse covered up by authorities. It will have statutory powers to compel witnesses and evidence. And where there is evidence of wrongdoing or cover-ups, it will be able to refer matters to the police. No one will be able to hide. When I first got elected, six and a half years ago, some of the first meetings I had were with local survivors like Fiona Goddard. Listening to their accounts of this crime, I was confronted with horrors that I will never forget. I made a promise to them then that I would do everything in my power to ensure their voices were heard and the truth would come out. Since then, I have consistently campaigned for this inquiry. I want to pay tribute to Fiona Goddard and the many others from across Keighley whom I have met - without them, none of this would be possible. Fiona is one of the bravest individuals I have ever met. Her extraordinary courage in speaking out and becoming a leading voice for survivors nationally should be an inspiration to us all - both locally in Keighley and across the UK. Now, after tireless campaigning and lobbying, their voices are finally being heard. I also want to recognise the work of leading child abuse lawyer David Greenwood, who has helped bring vital cases and evidence forward. He has been crucial to this campaign. Working with him, it has been clear for all to see that the scale of this issue across the Bradford District will dwarf that of the likes of Rotherham, Rochdale and Telford. At times, our calls for a full inquiry were dismissed, or rejected altogether. Yet despite this we refused to give up. For many years, political leaders from across our region, including the previous Bradford Council Leader Susan Hinchcliffe, the Mayor of West Yorkshire Tracy Brabin and Deputy Mayor for Policing, Alison Lowe repeatedly rejected our calls for an inquiry. It was my firm view that these refusals mirrored the same patterns of denial seen in towns like Rotherham and Telford. There, decades of abuse were hidden in plain sight until independent inquires finally forced the truth into the open. It was deeply frustrating, but nevertheless welcome that it was only once a national inquiry was recommended by Baroness Casey in June 2025, supported by the Home Secretary, that these same local leaders changed their position, and supported our calls. Whilst no inquiry can undo the pain and suffering they have endured, it can help ensure the truth is uncovered and that those who were failed finally receive the answers they have spent years fighting for. And finally. One of the most difficult lessons of this entire process is that survivors have had to become campaigners themselves just to be heard. That should never have been necessary. It speaks to a deep and painful failure in Britain right now, and of the institutions at every level of the British state. Now we owe it to survivors, and to thousands across our area who suffered in silence, to see this through together. This inquiry must seek the truth - however horrific it may be. And bring about justice to those who have been failed for far too long. I will not stop until we achieve this. Robbie

The government is completely failing to properly protect victims and survivors of the most heinous sexual offences as their perpetrators are released early from prison. Their complete mishandling of the prisoner early release scheme has eroded trust. I have severe concerns that this will impact the National Grooming Gangs Inquiry. Today, I put those points to the Home Secretary.

Our rural communities, our rural values and our rural way of life are under attack right now by a raft of ill-thought through government policies. The countryside is central to Britain’s prosperity, contributing more than £300 billion to the economy and supporting over 4 million jobs. It feeds the nation and provides enjoyment for millions. Yet the voice of the countryside has been ignored by this Labour government. Damaging policies have hit the countryside hard and alienated rural communities. The family farm tax attacked the very hardworking people who put food on our tables. Misguided measures on horseracing are harming the nation’s second most popular spectator sport, while greyhound racing has been banned outright in Wales and Scotland. Trail hunting is set to be abolished and shooting is now under attack as well, despite their major contribution to conservation and the rural economy. All of these measures could be avoided or changed, if only their impact on the countryside was understood. It was great to attend the Countryside Alliance’s Campaign for the Countryside in Westminster to hear the urgent calls from David Blunkett, David Cameron and Minette Batters as they directly appealed to government for a much needed rural reset. If political leaders want to speak for all parts of the country, they have to hear the countryside as well. The Conservatives will do this. But I urge this Labour government to do so as well. DALTON MILLS - Residents have now endured repeated fires, including five major fires, watched constant vandalism of the site, and been exposed to prolonged uncertainty, all while living beside a derelict and dangerous building. It has been deeply worrying, stressful and frightening for all involved. Thank you to those residents who have spoken up. I will not stop standing up for our town until we get a solution.

Extremely concerning scenes at Dalton Mills in Keighley this evening. Fire & Rescue Services from across the region remain on site working incredibly hard to get the fire under control alongside police and ambulance service personnel who are also in attendance. Situation is ongoing. I will provide an update once further information is known. Huge thanks to our emergency services for all their efforts and bravery as they continue to tackle the blaze and put out this major fire, and ensure all are safe. Thank you also to all who have contacted me this evening. I have visited the scene myself and spoke with the emergency services and neighbouring residents.

The government need to be held to account on their promise to ‘smash the gangs’, and stop illegal migration coming across the English Channel. Over the past couple of days, I have been in Denmark as part of an important Home Affairs Select Committee inquiry, looking at how Denmark is dealing with illegal immigration, and their strategy of deterring people from entering the country and claiming asylum. Denmark has adopted strict migration policies, with the aim of deterring people from claiming asylum in Denmark in the first place. Throughout our visit, we visited the Danish Parliament meeting their Immigration and Integration Minister, met with Members of Parliament whom sit of their Home Affairs Select Committee, the British Ambassador to Denmark, Local Authority Representatives, their Danish Returns Agency and visited temporary accommodation for asylum seekers and for those whom had received a negative result. We also visited Sweden to meet with Swedish Police to talk about border security and serious organised crime, discussing international collaboration to address organised immigration crime. Last November, the UK Home Secretary published her asylum and returns policy statement, setting out reforms she is proposing that aims to address what the Government views as “pull factors” leading to people coming to the UK to claim asylum. The government’s policy paper highlights Denmark’s tightened approach to asylum and refugee policy, and indicates that a future policy may be based on the Danish model, highlighting their low rates of asylum claims. In 2025, 101,911 people applied for asylum in the UK – around 15 asylum applications for every 10,000 people resident in the UK. In 2024, there were 4 new asylum claims per 10,000 people in Denmark. It has been reported that “Denmark has shown that a harsh asylum narrative can indeed be effective as a means of deterrence”, by creating an overall hostile impression to asylum seekers who may wish to come to the country. This has included the Danish Government making it easier to revoke residence permits if there was improvement in the country of origin. A two year ban on family reunification for people granted temporary status on the basis of general violence in their home country. Making it more difficult to get settlement in the first place, and by introducing legislation that recognises the sovereign right of states to control their borders and ensures the safety of the Danish public is not compromised by the rights of Foreign National Criminals. The country is also a supporter of establishing returns hubs outside of the EU. Denmark is now part of the ‘Group of Five’, a core group of EU Member States working to progress talks and secure an agreement with a third country partner to establish a returns hub. Their PM Frederiksen has said that finalising an agreement with a partner country will be her ‘personal’ priority of this parliamentary period, and Immigration Minister Bødskov has indicated they hope an agreement will be reached by the end of 2026. Rwanda, Uganda, Uzbekistan and Kenya are currently the countries being presented as options. Denmark has also pushed for reform of the interpretation of the ECHR, with particular concerns about the application of Article 8 and the impact this has on Denmark’s ability to expel foreign offenders. It is imperative we can learn from others, on what works and what doesn’t, if we are serious about tacking this issue. It is clear for all to see that current approach by this Labour government is not working. We must see a bold, decisive approach that fundamentally transforms how we tackle illegal immigration - not the tweaking of policies we are seeing from this Labour government.

This is yet another hammer-blow to our tourism and hospitality sector, already under enormous strain from this Labour Government's increases to employers' National Insurance, minimum wage and business rates. It will also hit hardworking British people who like to holiday in the UK. This holiday tax will simply mean that tourism hot spots, such as Ilkley and the Worth Valley will be used as a cash cow by our Labour West Yorkshire Mayor, with no guarantee the money raised will ever be reinvested in the very communities where the tax is collected. Andy Burnham positioned himself as the ‘champion of change’ from Keir Starmer, but giving mayors power to raise taxes on hardworking British people and businesses, looks like the very opposite of the change people were promised. The Government seems determined to find ever more creative ways to tax the British people, and I refuse to sit back and watch while this happens. 🌾🐑🇬🇧This BACK BRITISH FARMING DAY, our farmers and growers expect actions, not empty words and promises from government. This year’s drought has again shown how fragile our food and farming sector is. Yields are down. Wildfires have been widespread and the Bluetongue virus has hit our livestock farmers hard. We are ever indebted to our farmers - but they need government to be on their side. Food security and water security must be taken more seriously by Ministers. Not just words, or headlines politics, but action and implementation. The government must stop hammering our food and farming businesses with tax hikes. They must axe the fertiliser tax, family farm tax and support the next generation. The Conservatives will do this. Food security and water security are central to our plans.

🚨SUGDEN END HWRC WILL RE-OPEN💪 Finally, Bradford Council has listened to us. Today, Bradford Council have agreed the Household Waste and Recycling Centre at Sugden End in the Worth Valley will be reopened, with the site expected to reopen before Christmas 2026. This has been a long campaign, stretching back to 2024, when Bradford Council decided, rather ridiculously, to close both the Sugden End site and the Golden Butts site in Ilkley. I am so pleased that finally, the Council have listened to our calls. Your local Conservative councillors, Cllrs Rebecca Poulsen, Chris Herd and Paul Golding, alongside myself, as well as thousands of residents across the Worth Valley have been calling for the Sugden End site to reopen ever since it was closed. Following Labour’s disastrous decision in 2024 to close both the Sugden End site and Golden Butts in Ilkley, residents have experienced longer journeys, and we have all seen increased pressure on the Keighley Household Waste and Recycling Centre, not to mention the sharp rise in fly-tipping in our community. Thank you to all who signed my petition calling for the reversal of this ill-thought-out idea. The petition received more than 10,000 signatures, demonstrating the strength of feeling locally. Since then, I have continued to raise the issue with Bradford Council and in Parliament, alongside local councillors. The Council’s decision today to reopen Sugden End is welcome news, reflecting growing recognition of the value for money it provides for local taxpayers. But whilst this is a welcome success, the fight is not yet over. While Sugden End will now be opened once again, Golden Butts Household Waste and Recycling Centre in Ilkley remains closed as the previous administration sold the land as part of the asset disposal scheme. I have therefore written to Bradford Council once again, urging them to find a new site in Ilkley suitable to provide a permanent replacement for Golden Butts. I, along with local councillors from Ilkley, will continue to fight for this and will keep you updated as further details become available. For now - the reopening of Sugden End is fantastic news 💪

Ever since Bradford Council closed the Household Waste and Recycling Centres at Sugden End in the Worth Valley and at Golden Butts in Ilkley….. 👉 There has been long, lengthy queues at Keighley’s Waste Centre on Royd Ings Avenue. 👉 Fly-tipping has dramatically increased. 👉 Kerb side collection has been put under huge strain. Labour should never have closed either of these sites in 2024, or then gone on to sell off the Golden Butts site in Ilkley. It was a disastrous decision for us all. Throughout, and ever since the closures, we have been constantly campaigning to get both our Household Waste and Recycling Centres back open. This issue has been raised by myself in Parliament many times and at a local level with Bradford Council by myself and your Conservative councillors. Now - finally - after listening to residents and the concerns that have been raised, on Tuesday 8th September, Bradford Council’s Executive will be considering whether to reopen the Sudgen End site. 👉 They must do so, with immediate effect. It is however disappointing, that Bradford Council is not yet proposing to reopen a new Ilkley Household Waste and Recycling Centre, and I will therefore continue to keep the pressure on in this regard, including in Parliament. 👉 Ilkley’s provision must be reopened as well. For now, let’s hope we can finally get Sugden End HWRC re-opened for good.

There was certainly something for everyone and it was great to see our farming community represented so strongly 💪. Huge thanks also to all trade stands, exhibitors and stall holders who came along - the show couldn’t happen without you. It was also great to see such a good turnout of livestock this year. Many thanks also to our local scouts who helped manage the car parks, flow of traffic and entry. You did an amazing job! It was a huge honour to be asked to judge our young handlers who did an incredible job handling the Ewes and fat lambs. It was brilliant to see so many entries in this year’s judging. Fantastic also to see so many incredible entries showing their produce - whether it be their homemade cakes, flowers, fruit, vegetables or knitwear - it was a pleasure looking around them all. Well done to Keighley Horticultural Society (Founded 1833). For me, it was brilliant to spend time walking around speaking to people and having some fun catching up with all. The Bluetongue outbreak is the biggest single issue hitting our livestock farmers right now, but the Farming Minister had to summoned to the House of Commons to answer critical, urgent questions - and then just didn’t address them. The government just isn’t taking this issue seriously enough. Still huge challenges with testing capacity, vaccine supply, financial support, carcass disposal and livestock movement restrictions. All issues raised weeks ago, but no answers today. DEFRA must mobilises with all its might and treat the bluetongue outbreak as an emergency, if they are serious about preventing further financial loss, emotional strain and hardship for our hardworking farming community.
