Have a happy Halloween! Here’s hoping all the little witches and goblins swarming our streets have a fun and safe night of trick-or-treating.
I was delighted to join the Edmonton Council of Muslim Communities in celebrating its 25th anniversary. For a quarter century, ECMC has built bridges, fostered understanding and promoted peace. Reminding us that Alberta is stronger because of our diversity.
In difficult moments, the strength of a community is found in the people who come together to care for one another. My visit to Wainwright following the tragic explosion at CFB Wainwright was an opportunity to listen, offer support & recognize the strength of the community.
During Women’s History Month, I am showcasing some Alberta community leaders I particularly admire. Aritha van Herk has been a leading literary voice in Canada since publishing her acclaimed first novel, JUDITH, in her early 20s. /1
I was delighted to visit Elder Dr. Francis Whiskeyjack School and spend time with its students and educators. It was wonderful to see a welcoming school community where young people are encouraged to learn, grow and take pride in who they are.
I was delighted to welcome Grade 9 students from Grandview Heights for a conversation about my role as Lieutenant Governor. It was wonderful to see their curiosity & enthusiasm as they asked thoughtful questions and learned more about the role and our system of government.
During my visits to the Jasper Fire Hall & Royal Canadian Legion, I was grateful to see the dedication of those helping their community move forward. Thank you to Mayor Ireland, Fire Chief Mathew Conte, Sue & Karle for your hospitality & all you continue to do for Jasper.
Our future is brighter when young people are curious, engaged and eager to understand the world around them. I was delighted to join Social Studies students at Harry Ainlay High School to discuss my role as Lieutenant Governor, share my experiences and hear their questions.
The ARPA Awards Ceremony was a wonderful opportunity to recognize the individuals whose dedication strengthens communities across Alberta. Congratulations to all nominees and recipients, and thank you for helping make our province a better place to call home.
I unveiled the plaque for the Queen’s Jubilee Garden, a tribute to Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. As its inscription reminds us, “The Glory of the Garden… shall never pass away.” It is a privilege to be connected to a place that inspires reflection for generations to come.
Pleased to join the Day of Pink INSPIRE Tour: History in Action. By reflecting on the individuals and movements that have helped advance equality in Canada. We are reminded of the importance of building communities where everyone is treated with dignity, respect, and belonging.
Canadian citizenship carries both privileges & responsibilities. As new citizens, you join a proud tradition of service, responsibility, & community engagement while bringing fresh perspectives that help shape our province & country. Congratulations on this meaningful milestone.
I was honoured to receive the First Poppy & to reflect on all that it represents. The poppy reminds us of the courage & sacrifice of those who served, & of our responsibility to remember them. As the Season of Remembrance begins, I encourage Albertans to honour their legacy.
During Women’s History Month, I am showcasing some Alberta community leaders I particularly admire. I have spent many hours talking with Asha Jama, Mabel Adesopo and Mabinotu Ouattara of the UBORA Women’s Initiative and always come away energized and inspired. /1
Alberta is fortunate to be the chosen home of people like Kimoya Edwards, whose family came here from Jamaica when she was in her early teens. There seems to be no field of endeavour that she does not excel at. Not only is she a nationally recognized track and field star… /1
…but she also was a 2-term VP Academic at the Univ. of Lethbridge, assistant director of the Network of Black Women and founder of the FLARE Symposium. Naturally gifted and positive-minded, I can only imagine what accomplishments await her in the future. #ABWomenNewcomers /2
