🌊Maritime security and emerging technologies are intertwined. At the #UNSC open debate 🇱🇹 highlighted: 🚢 Russia’s illegal shadow fleet threatens navigational safety, critical undersea infrastructure and the marine environment 📡 GNSS interference originating from Russia puts all vessels in the Baltic Sea at risk 🇷🇴🇧🇬 Expresses solidarity with Romania and Bulgaria after recent attacks on their vessels 🕊️ Any ceasefire must include maritime infrastructure and shipping lanes ⚓ The International Maritime Organization - IMO must strengthen oversight of shadow fleets #MaritimeSecurity #ShadowFleet #balticsea #UNCLOS

In my exchange with Mr Daniel Naumovas, Vice-Minister of Health of Lithuania 🇱🇹, at #RC76CPH in Copenhagen, I was impressed by how far the country has gone on e-health and digitalisation, and by its belief in data-driven policy. The European Health Data Space offers a promising example for other regions, showing how health data can be used to improve patient care and support research and policymaking. I was also fascinated by the Vice-Minister’s insights on clinical trials and their link to personalised medicine, and by how this is already working in Lithuania. This is the thinking behind my manifesto’s call for excellence in evidence-based policy advice: stronger national health information systems, and a WHO that turns data and evidence into advice countries can use.

⚖️ 80 years on, the International Court of Justice remains indispensable at a time when respect for international law is increasingly challenged. At #UNGA81, Lithuania delivered a statement on behalf of the 🇪🇪🇱🇻🇱🇹 Baltic States on the Report of the @CIJ_ICJ : 🎉 Congratulated the Court on its 80th anniversary 📂 Welcomed its efficient handling of a growing caseload, its review of working methods and the planned 2027 case management system 📋 Welcomed the new reporting on compliance with provisional measures, and urged States to respond to the Court’s requests 🔍 Called for similar attention to implementing the Court’s judgments 🇮🇸 Welcomed Iceland’s acceptance of the Court’s compulsory jurisdiction and encouraged others to follow. #ICJ #InternationalLaw #RuleOfLaw #UNGA81

Moscow presents itself as a reliable partner for Africa – in reality, it undermines the continent’s food security.   Russian attacks on Ukrainian ports, shipping routes and agricultural infrastructure continue to disrupt exports that help feed countries worldwide.   Food security depends on reliable supply chains, not diplomatic declarations.

When is it ok to attack health-care workers? ❌ Never. When is it ok for fighters to target civilians? ❌ Never. When is it ok to torture someone? ❌ Never. The rules of war are simple. The rules of war preserve our humanity.

#Europe must be at the table when peace in #Ukraine is negotiated - but not as a collection of fragmented voices. Any contact with Russia must be backed by a united position, real leverage and a list of European demands. Engaging with Putin one by one and without clear agenda has never worked for Europe. Not once.

Health care in Ukraine remains under strain as attacks damage hospitals, ambulances and warehouses storing life-saving medicines. Over the last months, an increased impact on medical infrastructure, including in Kyiv, has severely disrupted access to vital care. #NotATarget

At #UNGA81 Third Committee, Lithuania, on behalf of the #NB8 🇩🇰🇪🇪🇫🇮🇮🇸🇱🇻🇱🇹🇳🇴🇸🇪, highlighted Belarus’s growing disregard for human rights, at home and beyond its borders. Belarus actively supports Russia’s war of aggression, increasingly generates hybrid threats against its neighbours, including the instrumentalisation of migrants, and is complicit in the unlawful deportation of Ukrainian children. It must stop. belarus keeps tightening its grip on human rights: ▪️Dismantles civil society and independent media ▪️Jails opponents on political charges and uses torture, including sexual & gender-based violence ▪️Targets Belarusians abroad through transnational repression ▪️Specifically targets women activists, journalists and human rights defenders ▪️ Treats political prisoners as bargaining chips Releases must be unconditional, with no coercion, forced exile or further punishment. #HumanRights #StandWithUkraine

I met with the Speaker of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, Juozas Olekas. I thanked the Lithuanian people for their unwavering, strong, and consistent support for Ukraine. We discussed in detail our European integration and the priorities of Lithuania’s presidency of the Council of the EU in the first half of 2027. It is very important that the remaining two negotiating clusters for Ukraine be opened by the end of this year, so that during Lithuania’s presidency we can already begin closing negotiating chapters. I briefed the Speaker on the meetings in Oslo and the overall situation in the negotiation process. We expect the trilateral meeting of the American, Ukrainian, and Russian teams to take place as early as the beginning of November. I am grateful to Lithuania for supporting Ukraine.

Today Sweden spoke on behalf of the Nordic-Baltic countries in the UN dialogue on the Human Rights situation in the Russian Federation. The most recent report is harrowing reading, showing that “torture and ill-treatment remained widespread, systematic and part of a government strategy of repression”. 🇩🇰🇪🇪🇫🇮🇮🇸🇱🇻🇱🇹🇳🇴🇸🇪 Read the statement here: swedenabroad.se/en/embassies… Read the UN-report here: documents.un.org/doc/undoc/g…
