Nail on the head...NRIs want to invest but Kyc at entry and Tax procedures when withdrawing are killing inflows @FinMinIndia @PMOIndia
There are so many issues with NRI investments which have reduced their investments in India. For example- a fund cannot have more than 50 pct collective NRI money. Why- no one knows.
An individual NRI cannot own more than 25 pct of a fund- Why- no one knows.
This applies to even OCIs ( who are foreign citizens) but not to foreign citizens who don't have OCI: why- no one knows.
General explanation is that Indians will do round tripping through NRIs/OCIs. Why will they do round tripping- no one knows. There is no difference in taxes whether u are India based or FII.
Even if there is no real financial logic to do round tripping but some Indian resident wants to round tripping - Why Indian will do round tripping only through NRIs/OCIs and not foreign citizens- no one knows.
And at the end of it- if some very small number of residents do have foreign money outside and they want to invest it back in India why stop them- no one knows. Also if a small percentage are doing something which authorities do not approve, why stop the route for a much much much much larger genuine population- no one knows.

Productive - follow outperformers in results season, listen concalls, read research reports and annual reports, if not this then go on vacation and recharge your mind and soul

Sharing my memories of a trip to Antarctica which is the 7th continent of Planet Earth.
It is cold, pristine, beautiful and a place of peace and science.
It has beautiful scenes of mountains, icebergs, penguins, seals, whales, birds and many other animals.
I spent many hours on the bridge of my ship and lugged 2 heavy cameras around on all excursions to capture these pics and hope that you will all enjoy Antarctica as seen through my eyes

Binge watched Operation Safed Sagar on Netflix.
inspirational reminder of the Kargill operations and some of the supreme sacrifices by our 🇮🇳 armed forces.
It is a must watch for fantastic storytelling, great performances and fabulous special effects

As we step into our 80th year as an independent nation, this is my Independence Day column from 2024
Let's look back at where we started and what we achieved - All that we take for granted was not inevitable... Or even likely, when we started in 1947.
It was actually not achieved by a single other post colonial nation... even though none face the challenges we did.
OUR starting point was the worst life expectancy, illiteracy, poverty and GDP growth, even compared to other Asian Nations - plus the unimaginable diversity in languages, religions and culture... And 500 plus princely States to be integrated.
Most of the world thought we would never survive as a united nation.
Almost nobody would have given us the chance of arriving intact with the same constitution nearly 80 years hence.
It is an achievement for which we have to give credit to our freedom fighters and those who laid the foundations of institutions in the country.
Not only the developing world, we were often ahead of the West as well.
For instance, one adult one vote did not come to the US, Switzerland and Australia for decades after us. Somewhere women were excluded, at other places it was the minorities
There were almost no management institutes in the rest of Asia a good 30 years after we started building ours
And of course no other developing Nation thought of setting up any research institutes for space, atomic energy, cellular biology and paleo sciences in the 1940s and 1950s.
Pakistan and India inherited the same army and civil services structure - so why did one have dictators and military coups... and the other did not?
It was NOT chance or happenstance - it was a very well thought out structure, put in place by the leadership.
We have come a long way but also need to remind ourselves of where we have taken eyes off the ball and what we need to do.
Happy Independence Day!
Jai Hind!
PS: This was my first column for Mint so it is also the second anniversary of the 'Myths and Mantras' column

इस देश को रखना मेरे बच्चों सम्भाल के
