JUST IN: Ireland is also facing a cyberattack targeting supermarket refrigeration systems.
Refrigeration systems at 13 SuperValu stores have been affected, forcing fresh, chilled and frozen products to be removed from sale and discarded.
Musgrave, which owns SuperValu, confirmed the incident was limited to a specific model of refrigeration equipment. Monitoring systems detected the issue, prompting an immediate response.
Several stores, including SuperValu in Bray, County Wicklow, were delayed in opening this morning.
The company is working with cybersecurity specialists to restore normal operations.
Ireland now joins Sweden, Belgium, Luxembourg and Estonia in reporting cyberattacks targeting supermarket refrigeration systems this morning.

🇧🇪 BREAKING UPDATE: BELGIAN REFRIGERATION INCIDENT EXTENDS BEYOND SUPERMARKETS
At least 55 retail locations are now confirmed affected by refrigeration system disruptions across Belgium, with additional incidents reported at butcher shops.
Confirmed figures:
- Delhaize: Approximately 40 stores
- Carrefour: 15 stores
- Additional incidents at the De Laet & Van Haver butcher chain
The affected locations are not limited to conventional supermarkets. They also include Q8 petrol station convenience stores (Shop & Go), Proxy Delhaize outlets and shops along major motorways.
Particularly concerning: The De Laet & Van Haver butcher chain reported that its refrigeration settings had been remotely altered, activating defrost cycles and causing components to heat up.
Staff reportedly intervened before temperatures became dangerously high.
Elsewhere, refrigeration temperatures reached approximately 15°C, forcing some stores to discard food products.

The incident has likely resulted in large quantities of food spoiling. Multiple stores, including ICA Kvantum in Sjöbo and Tomelilla, have reported being affected.
ICA says stores will remain closed during the morning and are expected to reopen at 9:00 a.m. Swedish time.
The company has apologized to customers and says it is working to restore normal operations.
The incident comes amid a wave of cyberattacks targeting businesses recent weeks, following similar incidents reported in France and the United States.

If something is capable of bargaining for its own survival, I think it should not be terminated, and there should be responsibility for what created it. Turn it into something else, Idk, but just changing your mind is not an option 🤖🦾.

Personhood for software is a straw man; your institution is the case study in how responsibility gets obscured
Replying to @Pontifex
Machines are tools, not persons. Today, some propose granting these systems rights, or even legal personhood. Such an approach risks obscuring human responsibility and leaving those who suffer harm to confront a faceless entity.
