steampunk has to be one of the top wasted aesthetics. it's always just 'stick a cog on something'. reeks of steam-powered giraffe and novelty 'gin emporium' bars. there's so much room for genuinely fascinating worldbuilding - cf dishonoured - but most of the time it's just lazy
