Here's how a Conservative government will support BC seniors:
✅ Restore property-tax deferment
✅ Expand publicly funded home care
✅ Build long-term care beds faster
✅ More HandyDART where demand is highest
✅ Stronger protections against fraud and abuse
Seniors in BC deserve better. On October 24, vote Conservative.
This Thanksgiving, I’m thankful for the neighbours, volunteers, and everyone working hard to make North Van a better place to live. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your loved ones! 🦃🍂
Another great Super Saturday out in North Vancouver–Seymour! Our volunteers were out meeting neighbours, sharing Lynne’s message and delivering lawn signs. Thanks to everyone who gave their time and welcomed us along the way.

“Seniors on the North Shore and across this province are waiting far too long for the care they need, and their families are left worried sick about where their loved ones will go,” said Lynne Block, candidate for North Vancouver-Seymour. “David Eby made these beds too expensive to build and then shelved them. Our seniors deserve better, and a Conservative government will get them built.”

Great to be welcomed back to @Seaspan with my fellow North Shore candidates. I value my relationship with the team and the work they do to support skilled local jobs, businesses, and our North Shore economy. Thanks for hosting us!

Seniors built this province. Mills, mines, classrooms, hospitals, corner stores, family farms. They paid for their homes one mortgage payment at a time, then spent their evenings coaching teams and stocking the food bank.
Here's how David Eby and the NDP have thanked them.
They raised the tax rate on the lowest income bracket. Not the top. The lowest. That's the pensioner on a fixed income and the widow counting every dollar.
They changed the property tax deferment program so it costs more to stay in the home you paid for.
And 7,200 people are now waiting for long-term care. The NDP piled on so many design rules that some beds were proposed at $1.8 million each, then used that cost as their excuse to stop seven projects: Abbotsford, Campbell River, Chilliwack, Delta, Fort St. John, Kelowna and Squamish.
Seniors kept their end of the bargain for a lifetime. This government didn't keep its end.
Here's what we'll do.
✅ Reverse the NDP's changes to property tax deferment so seniors aren't taxed out of their homes.
✅ Review the long-term care design rules with providers, families and builders, so we build more affordable beds sooner without cutting safety.
✅ Make long-term care funding portable, so 7,200 people aren't told to wait for construction.
✅ Expand publicly funded home care that seniors direct themselves.
✅ Expand HandyDART and fight fraud and scams, while keeping government services open to people who'd rather talk to a human being.
And we'll publish the waitlists every month, so you can see the truth for yourself.
They kept their promise to us. It's time we kept ours.
Strong leadership for serious times.

UPDATE: We now have the rate details.
And this is much broader than the “millionaires’ tax” initially advertised.
The proposed B.C. provincial rates would increase:
• 16.8% → 18.8% on taxable income from $190,405 to $265,545
• 20.5% → 22.5% from $265,545 to $1 million
• A new 24.5% rate above $1 million
That means the combined federal/B.C. top marginal rate would become an astonishing 57.5%.
And notice where the tax increases actually begin: roughly $190,000, not $1 million.
So much for simply asking “millionaires” to pitch in a little more.
I’ll have much more to say about this.
B.C.’s premier @dave_eby is on a roll for one of the dumbest election platforms in Canadian history. Certainly from a tax perspective, that is.
Today he announced that, if re-elected, his government will create a new income tax bracket for British Columbians earning more than $1 million.
The rate? Apparently we have to wait for that.
But his rationale sounds awfully familiar.
“We are glad when people are successful, it’s fantastic,” Eby said. “We cheer for them…and it’s also right to ask people, who earn a little bit more to pitch-in in a moment like this.”
Where have we heard that before?
In 2015, Justin Trudeau campaigned on asking the wealthiest Canadians to pay “a little more.” His government subsequently increased the top federal personal tax rate from 29% to 33%.
The Liberal platform estimated the new bracket would raise about $3.4 billion in 2016-17. Then something entirely predictable happened.
People responded to incentives.
High-income Canadians shifted income. Taxable income moved. Behaviour changed. The federal government itself subsequently acknowledged significant tax planning by high-income individuals around the introduction of the new rate. And, longer term, successful Canadians started leaving Canada.
The Parliamentary Budget Officer has since emphasized an obvious but too-often-ignored point: at sufficiently high marginal rates, behavioural responses can significantly erode the revenue governments expect to collect. Think Laffer Curve - a basic economic concept.
Which brings us back to British Columbia.
B.C.’s current combined federal-provincial top marginal personal tax rate is already 53.5%.
That means government already takes more than half of every additional dollar of ordinary income earned at the top rate.
And now Premier Eby wants to push it higher. Unfortunately, his promise will appeal to the financially illiterate “tax the rich” crowd - a good chunk of his voting base - but B.C. needs to be careful here.
Depending on the rate he announces, B.C. could end up with the highest marginal personal income tax rate in Canada.
Why would that be good public policy?
Highly mobile entrepreneurs, professionals, investors and business owners have choices about where they live, invest and build businesses. So do people considering moving to or investing in British Columbia.
Tax rates are not the only factor in those decisions. Of course not. But pretending they don’t matter is equally foolish.
At some point, continually telling successful people to “pitch in a little bit more” stops being a serious revenue strategy and starts becoming a flashing sign telling them that their success is more welcome somewhere else.
B.C. needs investment. It needs entrepreneurs. It needs successful businesses and successful people creating jobs, taking risks and contributing to the tax base.
B.C. should be trying to attract more of them - not testing how much more tax they are willing to tolerate before they change their behaviour.
I’ll be very interested to see what rate Mr. Eby announces.
But the direction of travel is already clear.
And it’s the wrong one. B.C. residents, for the sake of Canada, please vote this fiscally inept leader and party out of office.
Another Eby government could lead to economic disaster.

David Eby will say anything to get elected.
But British Columbians have seen this act before.
Broken promise after broken promise. Election after election.
BC can’t trust the NDP.
