On the sidelines of the Africa-Russia Summit, we took the opportunity to visit the Russian Ministry of Transport in Moscow.
We were hosted by Mr Dmitry Vladimirovich Shiyan, Director of the Department of International Cooperation and his team. We had a productive discussion on ways to collaborate on the transport corridors in the IGAD Region, particularly to landlocked countries.
Grateful for the gracious welcome. We look forward to continue this discussion.
Glad to take some time with HE Abdisalam Abdi Ali, Foreign Minister of Somalia and Ambassador Mohamed Abukar Zubeyr at the Africa-Russia Summit in Moscow.
@IGADsecretariat policies and positions are informed by the input from our Council of Ministers. I took the opportunity to discuss a number of issues with the Minister!
The Third Africa-Russia Summit kicks off in Moscow.
A spirited dialogue on security, industrialization and trade in a multipolar world. Turning the page on being a primarily a source of extracted minerals.
Glad to participate in the Africa Regional Organizations Meeting co-chaired by HE Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation and HE Évariste Ndayishimiye, President of Burundi and Chairman of the African Union, at the Africa-Russia Summit in Moscow.
In my remarks, I highlighted the Greater Horn of Africa’s strategic importance and the opportunities for deeper cooperation between Russia and IGAD Member States.
I emphasized the need to move beyond bilateral partnerships towards stronger regional collaboration on peace and security, climate resilience, health preparedness and cross-border challenges.
I also welcomed Russia’s support for two permanent African seats on the UN Security Council, underscoring the importance of Africa having a stronger voice in global decision-making.

Glad to be on the same panel on ‘Building Trust across Borders’ with my brother Ambassador Fred Ngoga @NgogaFred, one of the most knowledgeable security experts in the Region. We discussed security trends and risks of the Greater Horn of Africa, on the sidelines of the Global Trust Summit @GTSummit2026 in Nairobi, Kenya.
His Excellency was Burundian Ambassador, and we had a merry time reminiscing about my experience with the AMISOM Burundian Contingent in HirShabelle, some of whom provided presidential compound security during my tenure as President in Jowhar.
I share my goodwill and eternal gratitude towards the Burundian Contingent in Jowhar with every Burundian I meet, and His Excellency was no exception!

My brother, the number of friends and acquaintances of goodwill you have in Somalia, and the warmth with which they receive you, wherever you meet them, is a testament to the goodwill and gratitude of Somalis to you and your huge role, to the Burundian Contingent in sector 5, and to the African AMISOM Peacekeepers in general!
Thank you Excellency @MAWareSO supporting our Somali brothers & sisters stands out as the greatest honor. Somalia’s progress is Africa’s progress, and I will always be proud to have played a part. My thoughts for the sacrifices of the people in HirShabelle & Barundi contingent.
