Clippers “introducing” a way for player X to make more money than the team has signed them for is not good Ballmer putting BIG money into sponsors will impact things when player X signs for $10 mill but makes $150 mill on the side Or signs for less than the max & sponsor pays the difference because of the second apron Because they can hide under the “well I didn’t directly give them money!” It’s not noticeable now because everyone has been smart for years about it. Hiding money in car dealerships or helping a guy start a local franchise store or introducing your star player to a “friend who’s into real estate.” Even the Clippers seemingly have been smart about it until some company went bankrupt Now imagine Steve Ballmer has no restrictions & he can swing his money around. If this is allowed to happen, why wouldn’t 4 out of the 15 top all-stars “take a discount” to live in LA & have a no-show sponsorship deal & have their house & car paid for too by a local sponsor because Steve Ballmer invested in their company in a shell LLC ? He’s not directly funneling money into the players pocket, just investing in “car dealership LA” and whatever they do is up to them! It’s a slippery slope. Stop being fooled by rich people
