To build housing people can actually afford, build public housing. Australian governments once had their own tradies, architects and planners, who built thousands of well built, affordable homes for all walks of life. The best housing systems around the world still do this.

It meant governments could build genuinely affordable housing for workers from all walks of life at a massive scale. It also meant they weren’t ripped off by multinational private contractors that drove up the cost of projects.

It’s totally possible to fix this system, but Labor and the Liberals would rather have a housing system that makes money for banks and property developers than homes people can actually afford.

Did you know Australia used to have a publicly owned electricity system, phone provider, airline, bank and even a pharmaceutical company? For real economic transformation we need to move beyond simple ideas like tax and spend, towards extending democracy into the economic sphere

We need to be fighting to bring things like electricity, banking, child care and aged care back into democratic, public ownership.

Why are some working class voters considering voting for One Nation, including those who believe that multiculturalism is a positive thing? And what does it mean for The Greens - our potential to win real, positive transformational change?

Why is it that the big banks are allowed to make tens of billions of dollars in profits in a single year in Australia, while more and more ordinary people struggle? The big corporations and billionaires have a lot to lose in changing this system.

Challenging them is going to be hard. But it’s why we need a mass movement capable of taking on them and their political representatives in the Labor and Liberal parties.

Max Chandler-Mather thinks the political class in Australia have badly underestimated the “economic malaise” of the public. Can he help the Greens capitalise on that mood from outside the partyroom? crikey.com.au/2026/04/27/max…

Renters are facing some of the worst housing insecurity in living memory, and the fuel crisis is making it worse. The PM must use Nat Cabinet today to coordinate a nationwide rent freeze and ban on evictions, just like Vic did during COVID. The only barrier is political will.

A 25% gas export tax would be a massive improvement on the status quo, but if Australians want a truly fair take for our resources, then a 50% rate is the way to go.

If Labor goes any lower than a 25% tax on gas exports, then Australians will know their government cares more about gas corporate profit than the millions of Australians struggling to pay the bills.

It shows its possible (and only fair) to charge a similar rate of tax here, and use it to fund programs to help Australians.

Our research has found Norway’s 78% tax on oil and gas export profit is the equivalent of a 59% tax on average on oil and gas export revenue - that’s despite a similar cost in producing oil and gas out of Norway as compared to Australia
