Following the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Atlanta, I spoke with Ukrainian Foreign Minister @andrii_sybiha to reaffirm Canada’s unwavering support for Ukraine. We discussed maintaining pressure on Russia and advancing a just and lasting peace that respects Ukraine’s sovereignty.
We are also working together to advance the return of Ukrainian children stolen by Russia — and to end Russian attacks on Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure and vessels carrying vital food supplies through the Black Sea. As I said at the G20 meetings, these actions by Russia are unacceptable, and Canada will work with Ukraine and our partners to hold Russia accountable.

I’m heading to Atlanta for the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, where securing vital maritime trade routes and strengthening global economic stability will be central to our discussions.
From there, I’ll join Prime Minister @MarkJCarney in Antigua and Barbuda for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting to advance climate resilience, sustainable growth and investment across 56 member countries.
Canada has an important role to play in shaping international responses to shared challenges, and our engagement at both forums will help us carry that work forward.

Canada’s voice is increasingly present in Europe’s most consequential diplomatic discussions. This year, I joined my European counterparts at the Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels and became the first Canadian Foreign Minister to participate in a Gymnich meeting, held in Ireland.
As we welcome EU leaders to Montréal this week, we’re building on that momentum — deepening security cooperation and opening new doors for Canadian businesses.
🇨🇦 On Ontario’s municipal election day, I salute everyone who stepped into the arena. Public service takes courage, determination and a commitment to represent everyone. Whatever tonight brings, you’ve already strengthened our communities and our democracy. Thank you! #cdnpoli
Thursday at Almonte Civitan, @CharlieAngusNDP reminded us: Trump’s threats to Canada are real. We must stand shoulder to shoulder against rising authoritarianism and fascism. Thanks to What Now Lanark County, Mississippi Mills Community Fund, theHumm & @Jeff__Mills. 🇨🇦

A historic video – November 22, 1994:
The U.S. President thanks Ukraine for giving up its nuclear weapons. In return, the U.S. promises to stand by Ukraine’s side to safeguard its independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity well into the future.
That future has arrived—yet today, Trump and his circle act as if none of this ever happened.

What a night! If the stadium had a roof, the record-breaking crowd last night would have blown it off watching Team Canada’s Women’s Rugby come from behind to snap England’s 41-match unbeaten streak and secure a thrilling 24-21 victory!
It was so special for me to watch Team Canada settle this unfinished business with England alongside some of my former teammates from the 1998 World Cup team.
Huge thanks to so many who support this team! Thanks to Rob Baker for the very special jersey and the Tragically Hip for their ongoing support. What a night to remember!

Friends, you should check out Lee’s great economic plan.
It offers a different approach to economic development than what Ontario is used to, and covers some big things I’ve long talked about.
It’s clear our government’s “old way” of supporting businesses has been inefficient given the outcomes, and that we have underperformed on growth, productivity, and building real capacity.
Here are a few things Lee’s plan that I particularly like:
- Moving public support away from straight grants toward equity co investment alongside private capital and repayable loans. This lets taxpayers share in the upside. The goal is building anchor companies that keep the jobs, the IP, the dividends, and the supply chains in Ontario.
- Using procurement so government can act as a buyer of first resort. This does not mean handing cheques to everyone. It means moving faster to test and buy from new companies that are solving real problems. Becoming a proven customer is often more valuable to a young firm than a subsidy. It can also give proof to larger Canadian businesses, which are often slower and more risk averse than their American counterparts, to try new products and partnerships.
- Making it faster and easier to start and grow businesses through regulatory reform. Simplifying rules and streamlining how government interacts with firms, with a goal of making Ontario one of the easiest places in North America to do business.
- Prioritizing energy and infrastructure by economic return, and pursuing a more “manufacturing” approach to both. That means using standard designs and repeatable procurement to control costs.
- A couple of ideas you will have seen from my platform, like pre permitting investment ready sites and partnering with Canadian pensions and private capital on infrastructure.
There is clear alignment among many liberals on the importance of productivity and growth to generate the wealth that pays for the things we want in our society (ie great public education, universal healthcare). You’ll see this reflected in the solid platform released by Stephanie Bowman as well!
Disclosure: I gave some policy advice earlier, but this is Lee’s plan.

Food exports from #Ukraine feed the world. But Russia is attempting to destroy this agricultural industry by striking commercial vessels and Ukrainian ports.
These continuous strikes are a serious threat to global food security.

A heartfelt thank you to our Canadian friends
Over the past few days, the Embassy of Ukraine has received numerous phone calls, emails, and messages from Canadians across the country expressing their support for Ukraine and concern over Russia’s continued attacks against our people.
These messages are a powerful reminder that Canada’s support for Ukraine extends far beyond official statements and government decisions. It is deeply rooted in the convictions, compassion, and personal commitment of Canadians who continue to follow developments in Ukraine and care deeply about the well-being and future of its people.
We read your messages. We hear your voices. And we are deeply moved by your kindness, warmth, and solidarity expressed in every one of them.
To every Canadian who has reached out, and to all those who continue to support Ukraine in so many different ways, please accept our sincere gratitude.
Please know that your support is deeply appreciated and never taken for granted.
On behalf of Ambassador @a_plakhotniuk and the entire team at the Embassy of Ukraine in Canada - thank you, Canada 🇺🇦🤝🇨🇦
