ALT “Drivers deserve to know what information about them is being collected and how it may affect their wallets. Discovering after the fact that a company has been tracking and selling their driving data without their consent is unacceptable. This settlement will hold GM accountable for its past conduct and secure meaningful safeguards so drivers have greater control over their information in the future,” said Attorney General Nessel. ALT “If this administration is allowed to gut the Corporate Transparency Act and erase important records, a critical safeguard against financial misconduct will be stripped away. The federal government doesn't get to circumvent a law it no longer wishes to enforce. We join this action to send the message that companies guilty of committing corruption, financial crimes and fraud will not get a free pass,” said Attorney General Nessel. ALT “I am grateful for the collaboration between our FORCE Team, Michigan State Police, and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, that allowed us to end a significant fraud ring and secure this conviction. Shoppers should carefully inspect gift cards they intend to purchase, checking for any signs the card has been tampered with, before loading them with funds,” said Attorney General Nessel. ALT “Consumers everywhere deserve to be treated with respect in any store where they choose to spend their money. That is the guiding principle behind the Michigan Consumer Protection Act, and many other state and federal laws. I appreciate the efforts of the FTC and other states on this far-reaching investigation, and together we can put an end to these deceptive practices and restore some truth in pricing across the country,” said Attorney General Nessel. ALT “Public service workers provide vital services, and help keep our communities safe and educated. Teachers, government employees, nonprofit workers, and others who serve the public should be able to count on the rules Congress established, not worry that an administration will change them to target disfavored work. The administration has wisely abandoned its appeal. This leaves the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program to continue helping these deserving workers,” said Attorney General Nessel. ALT “This case alleges a shocking abuse of public records, and the trust and care of patients. Medicaid patients, and patients everywhere, should be able to trust their healthcare providers are qualified and vetted. The Health Care Fraud Division in my office will lead this prosecution, among their continued efforts to defend the Medicaid program and vulnerable patients across the State,” said Attorney General Nessel. ALT “Homeownership is, for most Michigan families, their single largest financial investment. For many decades home ownership has been a pathway to housing and financial security, and instrumental to building generational wealth. Nobody deserves to be swindled out of a lifetime investment, and the law doesn’t tolerate deceptive schemes to hold consumers’ hard earned home equity hostage for payment,” said Attorney General Nessel. ALT “When immigration agents make unlawful arrests, the damage reaches far beyond the person taken into custody. Children miss school, workers stay home, and families become afraid to seek medical care or call the police when they need help, putting public safety at risk. The federal government has a duty to enforce immigration law, but it must do so legally. My colleagues and I will continue to hold this agency and administration accountable whenever they fail to follow the law,” said Attorney General Nessel. ALT "The law provides specific parameters that allow monitors, observers and challengers to witness elections at local polling places. It’s important for residents to know that DOJ Monitors are a standard part of our election process, and we anticipate they will comport with state and federal law just as they did in this year’s August Primary. But make no mistake, my office stands ready to hold accountable those who attempt to unlawfully interfere with or intimidate Michigan voters or election workers, regardless of who they may be,” said Attorney General Nessel. ALT “Identity thieves can target anyone, including businesses, for their own personal financial gain. I want to thank the Clare County Sheriff’s Department and the Department of Treasury for their investigative work on this case. We will continue to work with our state and local partners to hold accountable those who steal from Michigan residents,” said Attorney General Nessel. ALT “Michigan protects its wetlands with strict regulations and, when necessary, criminal penalties. These protections help maintain a healthy environment and defend fragile and sometimes irreplaceable ecosystems. EGLE takes seriously their obligation to defend the resources of our State, and, in my office, we will prosecute when necessary to uphold and enforce compliance with the law,” said Attorney General Nessel. ALT “Consumers Energy was approved for a new natural gas rate hike just last week, and before a single new dollar could be spent, they’ve announced their next rate hike. Major utilities like Consumers Energy and DTE employ entire teams of staff to craft rate hike applications to file one right after another, and their bill paying customers pay all the costs to craft these massive proposals. In the past, we have asked the MPSC to require both companies to track their costs associated with rate hike cases and, as long as their customers are paying for the process, I hope someday soon we’ll know just how much,” said Attorney General Nessel.
