🙌 After a 7-year legal ordeal, humanitarian workers wept with relief this week when a court on the Greek island Lesbos acquitted 24 defendants who had been baselessly charged with felonies for saving lives at sea. The Greek government should always prioritize saving lives. bit.ly/4pMoOdR

We condemn the latest pushback of at least 80 Syrians, including women and children, by Cyprus, already condemned by the ECtHR for violating non-refoulement. Cyprus' unlawful practices led to a deadly shipwreck, resulting in 3 deaths and at least 16 missing. This must end NOW!

Afghan refugees in Pakistan are currently being subjected to arbitrary arrests, detentions, trials and deportation to Afghanistan🚨 However, a landmark Islamabad High Court decision addressing Afghan refugees’ legal struggles in Pakistan could pave the way for change.️

We at @amnesty are extremely concerned over the fate & wellbeing of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, director of Kamal Adwan hospital who was detained by Israeli forces along with others during a raid on the hospital on 27 December. He must be released immediately and unconditionally. For months Dr. Abu Safiya has been the voice of Gaza’s decimated health sector, appealing for the protection of his hospital and working under inhumane conditions, including following the killing of his son. The raid, the latest in a series of attacks on healthcare facilities in North Gaza over the past two months, put Kamal Adwan, the last remaining major hospital in the area, out of service. Since the beginning of its genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, Israel has detained hundreds of Palestinian healthcare workers from Gaza without charge or trial. Health workers have been subjected to torture and other ill-treatment and been held in incommunicado detention. Israel must immediately release all Palestinians arbitrarily detained, including health workers. Hospitals and health workers are not targets. The int'l community esp Israel's allies must act to bring an end to Israel’s genocide against Palestinians in Gaza #EndGazaGenocide

France, Austria, and Germany’s suspension of temporary protections for Syrians is both premature and irresponsible. Syria remains in a fragile transition, with its future governance, safety, and stability far from guaranteed. arabnews.com/node/2582419/am…

This is @Amnesty response to the ousting of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad following the seizure of power by opposition forces in the capital city of Damascus: The historic opportunity to end and redress decades of grave human rights violations under President Assad must be seized. Amnesty International calls on opposition forces to break free from the violence of the past. The most important step is justice, and not retribution. Read here: amnesty.org/en/latest/news/2…
