This was supposed to be a peaceful sniff walk after working. It became a reckoning; a true Canadian Horror Story. The geese had already infiltrated the park and were intimidating every local still brave enough to remain outdoors. Three times the path was taken from us. Three times I stood there while one of them crossed, slow and certain, as if our fate had already been written. I showed no fear though I'll admit my hackles went up. I did not bark. I was smart enough not to antagonize monsters like that. I could smell the fear on everyone else. The geese did not smell like fear at all. At the pond the ducks were crowding the edge, pressed together and keeping clear of whatever was plotting the demise of us all. I did not surrender the human behind me. I emerged with every strand of fur intact, and my human is still among the living.
