Was listening to this gorgeous track and thinking about Nathan and Holmes in the ocean together and realized itโs possible this whole movies an allegory for how American consumers know capitalism is lying and scamming them but choose to be ignorant when enjoying its benefits

the trouble is that americans think that protests are just a fun social gathering where you hold up plaques with "I'd rather be at brunch" and sing k-pop demon hunters songs, rather than a means of physically intimidating and scaring the government into doing what you want

Near the very beginning, Holmes and Billy say a NYT reporter quoted Holmes as saying, โTheyโre playing a character I created.โ
The couple contends that Holmes wouldnโt say that and, instead, said โTheyโre playing a character they created.โ
One word changes the meaning from guilty to innocent.
Then the film builds up to Fielder having a similar moment, where he has to decide if Holmes said โI knew [Billy] was talking to you about itโ or โabout something.โ One makes her look guilty, the other innocent.
Understanding this is the key to understanding the deeper meaning of the entire film
