Outstanding episode from @derekpanchuk for anyone wanting an insight into applied #SkillAcquisition.
"if we are working in that environment how do we how do we make it so that we can squeeze more learning and development out of it and get more of a holistic development?"

Becoming an Olympian is not just about success at under-age level.
There are lessons for parents and coaches from the different pathways which Irish athletes have taken to get to the Olympic Games, says UL's Dr Phil Kearney

Nice thread here showing how we can use performance data to better shape our training environments using ecological dynamics. How can we more frequently move away from the pursuit of needing to see 'perfect' technique in training? 🤔
The recent success of Ireland’s relay teams (nitter.cf/irishathletics/status/…) was a nice prompt to think about how skill acquisition can be applied to competition preparation.
In this 🧵, we highlight resources that might aid your planning of training sessions for competition season.

This a very good and informative thread. Could be useful for coaches and data analysts to reflect on. nitter.cf/MSAIreland/status/1791…

Thanks for the reminder! Since I wrote that, I've started doing some 4x100m coaching myself - the below is an extract of something I wrote for World Athletics on how I utilise my interpretation of skill acq principles in practice.

This was a really enjoyable paper to work on over the past 6 weeks with the @MSAIreland crew.
Hopefully it stimulates some healthy discussion amongst #SkillAcquisition Specialists, Coach Developers and Sports Coaches.
The sheer diversity of skill acquisition theories can create a confusing picture for the practitioner seeking to be informed by theory and led by evidence in their practice.
In a new paper, we comment on a recent publication on 'the adaptable coach':

Thanks for highlighting a favourite piece of work! More coming in this space that looks at how learning in simplified but representative situations (ie 1v1 practice) has high transfer to competition 5v5.

Thank you for the invitation to discuss this topic.
We ask: In light of your experiences of coaching, being coached and your encounters with research & theory, what are your beliefs about what and how people learn and how to enhance the learning process?
Lots to consider.
