Last month, we announced our partnership with the Public Library Association to help libraries bring AI skills to their communities. In the small town of Clarksville, Virginia, 18 people came to the library's first AI class, nearly triple the usual turnout. As branch manager Connie Boyd put it, "A computer opens doors, and AI will open a door for them." @ALA_PLA @Microsoft

Quincy, Washington, is just one of the many communities where @Microsoft is working to ensure our investments in technology go hand in hand with investments in people and local opportunities. Through workforce development, education partnerships, and sustained community engagement, we're helping create pathways to economic opportunity and supporting the long-term growth of the communities where we operate. Quincy offers an important blueprint for putting our Community-First AI commitments into practice.
Long-term investment in local communities sounds good on paper. What does it look like in practice? In Quincy, WA, it's connecting residents to new career opportunities through workforce development, education partnerships, and sustained community investment.

We spend a lot of time talking about artificial intelligence. But we can’t lose sight of human intelligence and the judgment, perspective, and different ways of thinking that people bring. @mustafasuleyman summed it up: "People matter more than AI."

If we believe AI is one of the most powerful technologies we’ve ever created, we should also recognize that no technology is above the law. Innovation needs to keep moving forward. But safety needs to keep pace. We need sensible, balanced rules that enable us to do both.

Nonprofits are closest to the challenges in our communities, so they should help decide how AI is used to tackle them. That's the idea behind @Microsoft Elevate for Changemakers. It gives nonprofit professionals hands-on AI skills, credentials they can show, and a community to learn alongside. The goal is to help them use AI for the people they serve.

Some challenges are simply too large for traditional tools. With decades of mission data and scientific knowledge, @NASA is using AI and @Microsoft technology to help navigate a universe of information. When AI can reason across that history in seconds, it can uncover connections and discoveries that might otherwise remain hidden.

Today, we’re launching Microsoft Community-First Grants, a new $1 million fund to support nonprofits that are not already directly receiving Microsoft grant funding and are addressing urgent community needs. We’re starting with organizations in King County, Washington, because our responsibility begins in the communities we call home but will expand to other regions of the state in the future. This is just the latest effort in @Microsoft's ongoing commitment to give where we live. I’m so proud to see the impact Microsoft and our employees made through the $1.9 billion we’ve provided to nearly 13,000 nonprofits statewide. Learn more about Community-First Grants and encourage any eligible nonprofit to apply! aka.ms/community-first-grant…
