Sony has been on a downward spiral this generation, and it’s more than just following market trends, it’s arrogance and mismanagement🚀
✅Abandoned community engagement and major industry events like E3, adopting a strictly cold and corporate tone.
✅Misguided pivot to live-service games led to billions in wasted capital (e.g., the Bungie buyout and Concord's massive failure), resulting in cancelled projects and the premature closure of newly acquired studios.
✅Innovation has stalled, with the company heavily relying on just a few core franchises and an endless cycle of remakes and remasters.
✅The costs for hardware and PS Plus subscriptions have increased significantly, despite a severe drop in the quality and volume of game output.
✅Executives are using skewed statistics by lumping microtransactions and DLCs in as actual digital game sales (per the leaked documents from their studios) to falsely portray physical media as a dead market.
✅Eliminating physical discs creates a price-controlled monopoly and completely locks out players in the 64% of regions globally that lack an official PlayStation Store.
✅Next generation isn’t looking promising at all, with a suspected price tag of around $1000, that’s x2 the price of PS5 at launch, just 6 years ago!
✅Take-Two CEO predicted streaming becoming much more mainstream in 3 years due to inflated console and software pricing
✅That means no ownership and total reliance of internet, accounts and networks all the time, and judging by Sony’s management and customer unfriendly policies, that is a recipe for disappointment and predatory practices
The industry needs to:
👉Scale back inflated budgets and scope
👉Support physical media (no internet req.)
👉Listen to players
👉Innovate in single player games
👉Steer away from live service & MTX

Went to an actual store and spent actual money on actual video games that I actually own.
Didn't bother checking the disc to digital situation on any of them, but I'm not all that fussed.
Physical media forever.

You know PlayStation is too far gone, when even IGN has had enough with them🚀
Sony needs to fire their executives, and hire people like Shuhei Yoshida, Shawn Layden, Kaz Hirai and Ken Kutaragi to lead the company back to the state which made millions of us love them for decades.
The current management has done enough damage:
✅Burning theories hundreds of millions, and billions even on live service that never took off
✅Unsustainably overblown development cycles of 7 years
✅Planning to end physical media and thereby creating a monopoly where they can raise prices on a whim and take away games without compensation, and even threatening ignoring your complaints or even banning and suing you under the excuse of “harassment”
✅Ruining their relationship with THE Hideo Kojima who brought so much value and recognition for gaming as a whole, as a serious art form, since the 90s
✅Funding games that seem to deliberately provoke hateful reactions from players which wasted so much for developers’ hard work just to score a point bloggers who don’t even play video games
✅Shown time and time again that they have no respect for their fans nor any morals and manners to communicate
We’ve had enough, and we’ve run out of goodwill for this company that is a shell of what it used to be.

The expectation to own a video game you buy was never a controversial or “unreasonable” topic, and it never meant you owned the IP🚀
What it means is:
✅The copy you buy is yours forever
✅You play it anytime
✅You sell/trade it anytime for any price
✅You can find it alternative prices
✅If the disc breaks, that’s on you
✅If the game has glitches, that’s on them
✅No need download/networks/accounts
✅More than one disc if the game is big
It really is as simple as that, and Sony wants to twist the narrative and wants to take away physical games which almost always had those conveniences and make it look like owning m a digital game is “unreasonable” because it’s one uncountable file on their servers, and you just buy “access”.
Meanwhile, GOG shatters that whole narrative by offering DRM-free digital games that neither infringe on nor ruined the livelihood on participating sellers, and DRM-lock, region lock and similar practices never stoped people from piracy, hacking or modding, and even if they did, it is not a good justification to penalize the many for the transgressions of the few.
The real reasons Sony wants a digital-only future is quite obvious:
❌A monopoly on gaming
❌Raising prices on a whim w/o competition
❌Taking away access w/o compensation
❌No refund once game is downloaded
❌More money to them per copy
It is never about “dated” physical media since music still comes to vinyl and CD including Sony’s own game soundtracks and record label, movies continue to come to blu-ray, and books continue to come to print.
Plus, many games have shown to sell %40-50 physical in countries like UK, France, Australia and Japan.
So stop falling for lies
Digital is convenient, yes. And we calling to end digital games. Many of us bought digital and physical games.
What we’re calling for is continuing production of physical games as an option, and better ownership terms for digital games.

It’s been 61 days since Sony announced their plan to end physical media🚀
To this day, outrage has expanded worldwide and went way beyond social media gaming spheres, but extended to mainstream media and gaming conventions.
✅Sales figures have shown high demand for physical games around the world
✅Resident Evil Requiem and Assassin’s Creed Shadows sold over 40-50% physical in territories like France, Japan, UK and Australia
✅64% of world countries have no dedicated PlayStation Store, meaning an all-digital future leaves them with no official access to games
✅PlayStation Store has no option to change region, meaning if you move to another country, you need to make a new account in the new region in order to use a local credit card, provided they even have a dedicated store to begin with
✅We have seen time and time again that digital games, movies, shows, music and books can be removed without compensation from digital store fronts, due to licensing agreements and various other reasons
✅Losing access to your account means losing all your games, and many have reported inefficient support teams when it comes to restoring lost access
✅Network outages have stood in the way of people accessing their digital games
✅Code-in-a-box games are region locked
✅Taking away physical games ends second hand market and trading
✅Digital-only future eliminates competition and leads to higher pricing, and it’s already evident with dynamic and regional pricing being introduced
✅Physical sales are high even if the percentage goes as low as 10% because that’s still millions of people
✅Publishers calculate microtransactions, DLC, free-to-play and digital only games as “digital sales” which inflates their the numbers of digital sales, and engineers a fake narrative that physical games are too niche to matter
✅PlayStation 6 and Project Helix are estimated to cost around $1000, which leaves little incentive to buy games priced from $70-100 and more, on an expensive console and PS5 barely showed any innovation in games compared to PS4 with hardly any games pushing the system’s power to its maximum or showing any true leap, and losing physical media leaves little to no incentive to buy a console when PC, while digital, offers way more options, higher specs, DRM-free, modding and generally way more games old and new
✅Exclusives are taking 5-7 years or more to come out, meaning buying consoles for the sake of exclusives is becoming pointless since a whole generation could pass with only 1 game from a first party studio
Physical media MUST stay, the same way books still come to print, music (including video games soundtracks especially for Sony games) continues to be released on vinyl, CD and cassette and films and shows keep coming on Blu-Ray.
There are many ways to make production or physical games more efficient, but ending them is not the way.
We MUST speak up, and protest within our legal rights as customers to defend physical games, because ending physical media harms digital gaming fans, not just physical ones.

✅Microsoft is allegedly telling publishers its next console, Project Helix will be entirely physical and will allow users to convert physical games into digital copies.
✅Sony reportedly realized that forcing a digital-only approach leaves a massive opening for competitors to capitalize on consumer demand for physical games.
✅A major unnamed game publisher (confirmed not to be Rockstar) reportedly threatened to skip PlayStation and release their massive upcoming title only on XBOX and Nintendo if Sony couldn't guarantee a physical release.

Rumors from Gamescom suggest Sony may be reconsidering its plans to move further toward digital-only PlayStation releases due to Xbox 100% physical strategy
According to Eurogamer Spain, some publishers are discussing how Sony’s approach to physical games could leave an opening for competitors to change their own strategies.
Microsoft is reportedly telling publishers that its next console, Project Helix, will be “100% physical,” with the ability to convert physical games into digital licenses.
Another claim says a major game maker has allegedly told Sony that it could skip PlayStation for one of its biggest upcoming titles if Sony cannot guarantee a physical release.

We don’t hate gaming, we love gaming very much that we refuse to let corporate greed to further ruin it for us.
A digital-only future is NOT evolution, it’s going backwards because it means:
❌No ownership
❌No competition/options for prices
❌No 2nd hand marketing and trading
❌Always being tied to an account
❌Losing games if an account is lost
❌Region-locking
❌64% of the world who have no dedicated PlayStation Store will lose access to games

The same way they’re trying to convince you that physical games “don’t make sense” and engineer data to make it seem like it’s a niche market, in the near future they’re gonna gaslight you into thinking owning a “license” to digital games “makes no sense” and that you should be settle for only streaming🚀
In fact, they’re already paving the way. And they’ll push for it because it makes them charge you for life, instead of charging you a fixed rate for hardware or software.
Ending is physical media is just a stepping stone, just like how cosmetic microtransactions were a stepping stone for huge chunks of content taken from games and sold as DLC, or making games deliberately more tedious so you can buy time-saver packs.
The greed won’t stop until you face it head on and vote with your voice and your wallet. That is your basic right as a human being and customer, and it doesn’t make you “toxic”, “entitled”, “broke” or “stuck in the past”.

Day 4 of the PlayStation Blackout🚀
Let’s refuse some of the weak arguments against physical games:
🗣️“You just want physical games for nostalgia”
✅No. Physical games represent:
A) Ownership
B) Competitive pricing
C) Second hand market & trading
D) No reliance on networks & internet
E) Not tied to a user account
F) Playable worldwide without region lock
G) Collectible value
🗣️“85% of players buy digital”
✅15% or even 5% in this industry is still millions of people bringing in hundreds of millions of not billions o revenue.
Statistics from around the world have also shown us that in the UK, France, Japan and Australia, physical game sales go higher than %40 and %50 for games like Resident Evil and Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
🗣️“Nobody buys physical games”
✅Several physical games go out of stock for weeks, or ship with a disc that requires downloading more.
Physical games don’t lack interest, they lack genuine support.
🗣️“Netflix and Spotify ended movie and music Blu-Rays and CDs”
✅Movies are still being sold on Blu-Ray and 4K UHD Blu-Rays, and music is still released on CDs, vinyl records and even collectible cassette tapes that actually work, despite being far smaller and less demanding than video games which can go over 100GB.
Artists sell multiple variants of the same vinyl and CD to boost sales.
🗣️“I haven’t bought a physical game for 10 years! It’s obsolete”
✅Your experience with games does not automatically reflect everyone else’s. If you don’t care, don’t get in the way.
🗣️“It’s expensive to make games on disc”
✅Games won’t be cheaper when man all digital. You will pay the same price for a glorified rental that can be taken any time due to licensing agreements or account loss/suspension.
🗣️“You’re too broke, you want to buy second hand and resell games”
✅Being a bootlicker for corporations that don’t know you exist, does not make you any less broke than those you accuse and posture in front of behind a keyboard
Physical games should always be an option. Video games are far more than just a file to download or “access” to gain.
In addition to all the benefits, they hold sentimental value to players and collectors.
