When I met Jessie Jacobs this summer, she desperately needed her home to be repaired due to catastrophic Harvey damage from 6 years ago.
Now, I am *so pleased* to report, the state is taking action. Jessie's house will be rebuilt.
A story of resilience:

What would it take to sync my phone number with my vote status? So, like, after I have voted, I stop getting the text messages? Can we make that a thing?
Every time I look at my 2yo in her little lion costume today, I am reminded of when my 4yo wore it a few years ago to go trick or treating in the newsroom, and @Schwartz_Land put salt potatoes in her treat bucket.

A Republican women's group is behind a fake Texas transgender student union that sent text messages and brochures to as many as three million voters this month.
The Republican Women’s Caucus Fund and someone named John Braun were identified as those responsible for the scheme that riled up voters just as early voting began, according to legal filings made public late Thursday. The identities were ordered to be revealed by a Travis County judge. bit.ly/48q1oVa

When you're in a meeting and you get the dreaded call from daycare: One of your 2 year olds blew out her diaper so bad it took out her shoes.
I guess I'm going to Target tonight?

To get in touch with the Real America, I'm here at a diner in rural Ohio on journalistic assignment with The New Yorker. Next to me is an alienated, hard-working woman on assignment from the Atlantic and a crusty father of 4 on assignment from Harper's.

Most local newsrooms don't have reporters who specialize in elections. @VotebeatUS's @JessicaHuseman explains how their Election Expert Desk connects journalists with more than 125 experts who can help them understand voting problems, election laws, and misinformation.
It's an interesting look at how accurate election reporting happens behind the scenes.

A few weeks ago, the twins' teacher asked for a family photo. I searched. And discovered the last pic with the twins, me, dad & big sis was literally Christmas 2024 - 80% of their lives ago.
Y'all, I don't take enough pictures with my kids.
Do you?

Two @HoustonISD schools are piloting the Alpha School model this year.
HISD Superintendent Mike Miles tells @nytimes that students initially spent longer than expected on the Alpha apps, eating into time that was supposed to be spent on afternoon enrichment.
My deep dive on the "A.I.-driven" Alpha School, revealing their internal learning and enrollment data for the first time, just as the network expands into public education.
There is a big gap between the marketing and reality.

Trump’s Education Department has not made public all its civil rights investigations at schools and colleges.
So @propublica sued and obtained all the complaints and investigations. And now we are publishing them so you can search the cases too.

For a story: Anyone out there travel on Halloween to trick-or-treat at a neighborhood other than your own?
So incurably Millennial that even now, as I wear embarrassing wfh pants I would never let the world (or my Zoom frame) see, the very, very front part of my shirt is obviously tucked into their waist.
