#Afrotellers2026 | Our Storytelling Lead, @SkaSebata, sat down with Goitse Kwada, on The Afrotellers Podcast for a conversation on all things narrative building and how @MagambaNetwork approaches storytelling across its programmes and creative work.
From the narratives we're building across the continent to our collaborations with partners beyond Africa, the conversation explores the ideas, creative processes and perspectives shaping our work.
📱 Visibility brings attention. Integrity earns trust.
At #Afrotellers2026, @magambanetwork explored how algorithms shape what we see and share. For CivFund, reaching audiences carries a responsibility to protect accuracy and trust.

Speaking at Afrotellers, Vera challenged young Africans to look beyond this dilemma & find ways to turn these systems to their advantage. The question is no longer just whether we use AI, but how we shape it, challenge its biases & use it to tell our own stories on our own terms
The goal is not simply to be included in the system, but to influence how it works.

How do algorithms shape what we see, what we believe, and what we are allowed to say online?
Nafasi Programme Lead Kudzayi Zvinavashe and Nafasi Storytelling Lead @SkaSebata are at Afrotellers Conference 2026 in Mombasa, Kenya, where they will host a session exploring Algorithmic Disinformation and Online Repression.
The session will unpack how algorithms influence the spread of disinformation, shape public conversations, and contribute to online repression. Through an interactive, story-driven conversation, participants will explore how these digital systems affect civic participation, access to information, and our ability to exercise our rights online.
At Nafasi, we believe an open internet is essential for meaningful civic participation. Understanding how digital spaces are shaped and controlled is part of defending the space for everyone to speak, participate, and be heard.

Thank you @Boi_Kudzie for leading the conversation we need to be having.
Two big questions:
🔴Is Big Tech playing fair with Africa?
🔴Who’s holding Big Tech accountable?

Our Programme Lead, Kudzayi Zvinavashe, joined the "Show Me How: Telling Your Story in the Age of A.I" panel at Swahili Port, Mombasa, during the Afrotellers x @pwaniinnovation.
He spoke on how big tech has double standards in Africa and in the West, the biases of the algorithm. The Digital paradox is that while the digital space has provided a platform for people to be heard, platform policies and internet shutdowns shape whose stories are heard, and why Africans must own their data, voices and digital safety as AI increasingly shapes our stories.

Last week at the Hub Unconference, Vafa left us with a question that feels bigger than the stage it was asked on: what does it mean to take control of the African narrative?

It takes listening. It takes truth. It takes curiosity. It takes the courage to sit with the messy, complicated, beautiful realities of our lives and say: this is our story, and we will tell it ourselves.

In a digital world where narratives travel faster than ever, the question is no longer whether Africa is being represented online.
It’s who gets to shape that representation.

Is AI ready for Africa?
Because maybe the question isn’t whether Africa can adapt to AI but whether AI is being built with Africa, its realities and its needs in mind.
Now that is a conversation! 🔥
