Incredible news to close the year! The 1926 silent film THE LITTLE IRISH GIRL, considered lost since the late 1940s has been found in Australia and has now been restored by the National Film and Sound Archive. The film stars Dolores Costello and John Harron.
As many have pointed out, though there were some talkies in the 1920s, they didn't look or sound like this. Plus noir was barely a genre then. This is more 40s
That said, it's extremely funny to imagine the minions picking up the word "bastard" in the same way they say "banana"
In a time where thin was the goal, one man had a vision... #1926
I expected this would be the result

The court rules that artwork needs to have a human creator in order to be eligible.

"The old days were better!" Maybe they were, but this sentiment has been voiced by literally every generation throughout history. I take solace from it in two ways:
1. It always happens, yet we continue on.
2. It *can* give us an ideal to strive for.
Never doom.
An accurate sentiment. American comics were stunted by the Comic Code Authority in the 50s, limiting them to become kids books in the form of superheroes and Archie. Meanwhile manga grew to have genres for every age group. The CCA is long gone, but its effects are still felt.
President of DC Comics spoke about what Japanese manga/anime does better than Western comics.
"I think manga has an ‘advantage’ over American comics, which are mostly about superheroes..."
"In Japan, it’s closer to ‘literature,’ and anyone can read it, and it’s not just hero stories. There’s a much wider range of genres, like stories about cooking and soccer."
"So I’m very happy that the manga has been so successful, because it gives me a ‘goal’ to aim for. The manga market is bigger than our industry, so the question becomes, ‘What can we learn from this?’"
