From lived experience to leadership! This week, one of our incredible care leaver we have worked with since last year took the stage, helping deliver a powerful lecture to Sociology students at a South London university. Seeing his growth reminds us why we do what we do.

We brought together 20 new police recruits and 20 young people from the community between the ages of 18-26 —without revealing who was who. After 2 hours of team games and discussions, we revealed that 1/2 the room were officers. The shock turned into real conversations.

This is what it looks like behind the scenes of a well polished interview 😄 I got to speak to my good friend, the inspirational French civil rights activist Assa Traore_ about French politics, community relations and law enforcement practices in her home city, Paris.

Fantastic opportunity to spend the day with @smilozone organised by Reccairni in Montego Bay Bottles are collected, sorted and shipped to Costa Rica to be recycled and made into new bottles. This is the epitome of sustainability and we loved being involved in the process.

After spending time in the community and then with the Parisian Police a few things came to light. There's no blanket way to challenge the issues police face when trying to engage with communities. Historical events and leadership teams will always dictate how much work needs to be done to improve relations. There is a lot of hurt from the communities side in France and not many have hope when discussing relationship building but the work we just partook in has definitely helped them to see that change is possible, although it may be difficult and lengthy. Community members outright told me police in Paris would NEVER, EVER engage with them. The fact that I was able to open that door was the first step. I saw the glimmer of hope return to their eyes, still with a bit of scepticism but hope had returned.

This week I spoke at an event in Paris ran by the incredible Assa Traore and her team tackling racism and inequality. Collaboration locally and internationally is an important part of growth for myself and team as we pride ourselves in being specialists in our field which is community focused.
