Chief Marc Gatcomb is feeling a little competitive this Halloween.
While getting ready for our trick-or-treaters, he decided to have a little fun with our good friends over at @everettpolicema . A little friendly competition never hurt anyone.
Now, before everyone gets too excited, the fancy treats are in limited supply, so get here early. Once they're gone, we're back to the regular police department budget.
As for Everett, we're just going to leave this video right here and see what happens.
Happy Halloween from Malden PD!

PUBLIC SAFETY NOTICE
If you noticed a little more police activity throughout Malden this evening, you weren't imagining things.
Malden Police joined @MassStatePolice and several surrounding communities for a coordinated initiative focused on e-bikes and mopeds. The purpose was to educate riders and address unsafe or unlawful operation, including speeding, reckless riding, and helmet violations.
These types of initiatives require support from department leadership and city administration. When the proposal was presented, it received that support, including from @MayorOfMalden
Some folks know the rules and don't care. Some don't know the rules but care. And some don't know the rules and don't care. We know all three exist.
Whatever category you fall into, Malden Police will continue working with our law enforcement partners to educate, enforce when necessary, and address public safety concerns in a reasonable and responsible manner.
We're not looking to make anyone's life difficult. At the end of the day, it's about keeping our streets safe for everyone who uses them.
🚓🚒 Celebrating National First Responders Day with Our Community 💙
Chief Gatcomb, and members of our Department, and members of the Malden Fire Department enjoyed visiting Forestdale Park Senior Living today for coffee and donuts in celebration of National First Responders Day!
A special thank-you to the residents and entire staff for inviting us and welcoming our public safety personnel into your community. It’s the people who make Forestdale Park such a special place, and we appreciate the kindness and hospitality you always share with us.
We always enjoy stopping by, catching up with familiar faces, and meeting new ones. Thank you for celebrating our first responders and making us feel so welcome today! ☕️🍩

🎃 Halloween fun and community connections!
Chief Marc Gatcomb enjoyed attending Mystic Valley Aging Services Trunk-or-Treat event and spending time with local families and community partners!
We always appreciate opportunities to connect with our residents and the organizations that work alongside our department to support our community. Thank you to our friends at Mystic Valley for bringing everyone together and for the care and dedication you bring to serving our residents throughout the year.
Plenty of smiles, creative costumes, and Halloween spirit! 👻🍬 @mystic_elder
Officers Pasciuto and Maldonado clearly understood the assignment at last night's Salemwood School Trunk or Treat!
They say you can take the officer out of the School Resource Officer (SRO) position, but you can't take the SRO out of the officer!
And apparently, they brought a Traffic Supervisor along who's been working himself to the bone.
Great job by both officers bringing some Halloween fun to the Malden community!

Recognizing One of Malden's Finest!
The Malden Police Department would like to congratulate Officer George Lopez, who was honored today with the Massachusetts Police Association's Life Saving Medal at its 126th Annual Convention in Hyannis.
Officer Lopez received this recognition for his actions during an off-duty incident in Lynn, Massachusetts, on April 21, 2026.
Being a police officer is more than putting on a uniform. It's about stepping up when someone needs help, regardless of whether you're on or off duty. Officer Lopez demonstrated that commitment, and we're proud to see his actions recognized.
And while we certainly encourage our officers to enjoy their days off, we're equally proud when they remind us that public service doesn't always follow a schedule.
Congratulations, George! Well deserved!

Officer Katelyn Centore was out representing the Malden Police Department at a local Trunk or Treat event!
Now, some of you may be wondering, “Where’s her costume?”
Well, Katelyn is actually a detective who typically works in plainclothes. So, technically, showing up in uniform is her costume!
And what better costume than that of a patrol officer, the backbone of any police department!
Great job representing MPD and connecting with our community, Katelyn!

Malden Police Department - Public Safety Announcement
The Malden Police Department would like to inform the community of a recent arrest stemming from a reported shooting in the area of the 500 block of Broadway in Malden.
As a result of an extensive investigation conducted by the Malden Police Department's Patrol Division, Criminal Investigations Division, and Special Operations Unit (SOU), with assistance from the @MassStatePolice and @FBIBoston Violent Crimes Task Force, a 47-year-old Saugus man was arrested on Wednesday evening, October 21, 2026, in the 400 block of Broadway.
The individual was taken into custody following a brief period of negotiation and subsequently transported to the Malden Police Station for booking on an outstanding arrest warrant related to the investigation. He is expected to be arraigned in Malden District Court.
Based on information gathered during the investigation, detectives believe this was not a random act of violence and that the individuals involved are known to one another. At this time, investigators do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the community related to this incident.
While the investigation remains ongoing, we appreciate the community's patience and understanding as investigators continue their work.
The Malden Police Department would also like to acknowledge and thank our law enforcement partners for their assistance and collaboration throughout this investigation.
As with all criminal proceedings, the individual arrested is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law - not the court of social media.
A Message to Our Community: Flock Safety Cameras and Public Trust
Following last night's City Council meeting regarding the use of Flock Safety cameras, I wanted to share a few thoughts and hopefully address some of the concerns raised.
One of the biggest questions was whether Malden Police can regulate how other law enforcement agencies use information obtained through our cameras. The short answer is that we cannot directly control another department's internal policies or practices. While we cannot directly control another department’s internal policies, they are subject to the same disclosures and auditing requirements. Also, The Malden Police receives records and audit information identifying which users conducted any searches involving our shared data. This provides an additional layer of accountability and allows us to retain records for future reference, should questions or investigative need arise. Every search conducted in Flock generates a digital audit trail identifying the user etc, providing for accountability and review. While we can establish restrictions on access to our camera data, we also expect our law enforcement partners to use this technology responsibly, just as we expect of ourselves.
What I found encouraging about last night's discussion was the apparent recognition that Malden Police is using this technology appropriately, with the intention of keeping our community safe. That matters to us.
Society is changing, and it's changing quickly. Modern policing requires us to adapt, and technology is part of that. But with new technology comes responsibility, and sometimes legitimate concerns.
One of those concerns is the potential for information to be misused, whether by law enforcement or anyone else with access to sensitive data. That concern is understandable. The reality is that almost anything can be misused. We've seen that throughout society. The important question is what we are doing to minimize that possibility.
Our responsibility at Malden Police is to make sure that the technology we use serves a legitimate law enforcement purpose, is used responsibly, and respects the community we serve.
Chief Gatcomb spoke to that responsibility during last night's presentation, with assistance from Detective Mulcahy. We hope their presentation provided some clarity and helped address concerns. We also recognize that some residents may still have questions, and that's understandable.

Public trust isn't something we should expect simply because we wear a uniform. It's something we have to continue earning through our actions, our accountability, and our willingness to have these conversations.

Congratulations to Officer Rappa, Officer Hogan, and Officer DeLeon (left to right) on successfully completing a 40-hour FBI Crisis Negotiations training course!
This is one of the first steps toward becoming full members of the Malden Police Crisis Negotiations Team.
Great training and an important skill to have. Just one piece of advice as you go off and do good things: Don't try it at home. For some reason, your kids are completely immune to the negotiator voice.
