Trick or... RECYCLE! After the candy is gone, don't let Halloween leave a scary mess behind. All those cardboard costume boxes, paper bags, and plastic candy containers (but not the bags) may be recyclable — give them a second life!
What CAN'T go in the bin: plastic film, foil wrappers, or sticky candy residue. When in doubt, check the top of your blue recycling bin. Keep Manatee spooky, not trashy! Need a drop-off site? Visit mymanatee.org/recycling.

A little help for one of Florida’s smallest falcons! 🦅
Manatee County is installing American kestrel nesting boxes at Duette Preserve to support these small but important birds of prey. American kestrels rely on tree cavities and other natural openings for nesting, but suitable sites can be limited. Nesting boxes provide a safe place for kestrels to lay their eggs and raise their young.
These colorful falcons play an important role in our ecosystem by helping control insect and small rodent populations. Providing nesting habitat is one way conservation efforts can help support kestrel populations and protect the native wildlife that calls Duette Preserve home. Every nesting box is another step toward protecting Florida’s wildlife and preserving the natural habitats that make our county special.
Manatee County is seeking residents interested in helping shape the future of local conservation efforts to serve on the Environmental Lands Management and Acquisition Committee (ELMAC).
The committee currently has three vacancies:
District 2: One member residing in District 2
District 4: One member residing in District 4
At-Large: One member residing in Manatee County
ELMAC serves as a citizen advisory committee to the Manatee County Board of County Commissioners, providing recommendations on environmental land acquisition, conservation, management and recreational opportunities on public lands.
Applicants must reside in Manatee County, with district-specific applicants required to live within the district they wish to represent.
ELMAC typically meets on the first Monday of every other month at 6 p.m. in the Manatee Room at 1112 Manatee Avenue West in Bradenton.
Applications will be accepted through November 22, 2026. You can apply at mymanatee.org/applyforboard

The living shoreline is taking shape at Bishop Point Park! 🌱
Construction is underway, and the reef balls are now in place. These structures will help create habitat for marine life while helping reduce wave energy along the shoreline. As this project continues to take shape, Bishop Point Park is one step closer to a more resilient shoreline that benefits both wildlife and the community, including those who enjoy fishing along our coast.
So, what’s next? Native vegetation will be added to help stabilize the soil, reduce erosion and provide habitat for local wildlife. Together, these natural features will support a healthier coastal ecosystem, creating more opportunities for fish and other marine species to thrive in the area.
And this is just the beginning! More living shoreline projects are coming to Manatee County. Stay tuned for updates as we continue working with nature to protect our local shorelines
