Today, our Coaches Paul Woodley, Jay Manners, Paddy Speight, and swimmers Tegan & Ceinwen Bishop attended the re-opening of Birtley Community Pool! 🏊♀️
highlight of the day was meeting HRH Prince William, alongside some of our nation’s Olympic and Paralympic champions! 🇬🇧🏅
Sometimes, I have to pinch myself for the incredible opportunities life has given me, and today was no exception! I was honoured to be invited to the re-opening of @BirtleyPool
@derwentsideasc @asanortheast
I participated in workshops focused on sharing key messages around effective approaches and models that help children and young people learn to swim and develop life-saving skills. We also discussed ways to make swimming more accessible and inclusive for all.

From the Olympics and Paralympics to community pools like this across the country, swimming is an activity with so many physical, mental and social benefits.

The Royal Foundation has proudly supported Birtley Community Pool from funding to meet refurbishment costs and bursaries to subsidise the cost of lessons for primary age children and lifeguard lessons for local teenagers.
This brilliant facility will have long-term benefits for the community in the weeks, months and years to come 🏊♀️🏊♂️

One of our local communities has worked tirelessly for over a year to reopen this wonderful pool.. fantastic to see the Royal Foundation in attendance at today’s event, exploring ways to remove barriers & sustain our pools and blue spaces to positively impact our future
