Tragic news; The Icelandic gyrfalcon population has been hit hard by the ongoing wave of avian influenza in recent years. Once numbering around 2,000 birds, the population has now collapsed to roughly 500 individuals, according to Ólafur Karl Nielsen, ornithologist and Iceland’s leading expert on the species.

Coming out of the field I always take the time to clean my equipment. Remember, its always best and highly suggested to keep your optics (no matter what they are) as clean and in good shape as you possible can. kymrygroup.com/2010/10/01/cl…

650 soldiers who survived the First World War pay homage to the horses that fell in battle. Millions of horses and other animals also served during wartime, and one special photo shows just how much their human counterparts appreciated the war horses and their sacrifice. This touching black and white photo is believed to have been taken by officers of the Auxiliary Remount Dept. No.326 in Camp Cody, New Mexico in 1919.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
There's no evidence for the soldiers being WW1 veterans, the setup being a homage, etc.

On Saturday, we saw hundreds and hundreds of warblers, buntings, orioles, tanagers, & more at eye level! Truly one of the best mornings at the divide for me personally, made better by the fact I got to share it with Oxy’s Avian Bio class! @BDMCount

“The meaning of a word — to me — is not as exact as the meaning of a color. Colors and shapes make a more definite statement than words.”– Georgia O'Keeffe, 1976.
