A short video on the complex route taken to this week’s International Olympic Committee verdict. With a closing comment on the women who, due to abject policy at past Games, have missed out on their golden moment. Many thanks to @OscarFrost00 for editing youtube.com/shorts/dcoalbZHu…

As the IOC decision to make female sports fair continues to trigger astonishing levels of confected outrage here’s a piece from the BBC that examines the ‘controversy’.
For the complete avoidance of doubt: it’s men - males, the ones with a Y chromosome, lads, blokes, chaps, boys, geezers, fellas - who have been banned from female sport. Anyone with a Y chromosome can compete in the male category, unless they are the vanishingly rare males who don’t go through male puberty because their body won’t respond to testosterone.
When Dan Roan writes here that ‘all three medallists in the women's 800 metre final were DSD athletes’ he means that all three medallists in the women’s 800m final were MEN, males with a difference of sexual development. Not manly-looking women, but real actual men.
The new IOC rules aren’t going away so shall we all calm down and sort out grassroots sport now…

'Alsalem said that while the policy is not retroactive, it does not preclude the IOC from providing appropriate remedies for past injustices, such as issuing an apology to female athletes who were denied fair competition, and to consider awarding retrospective parallel medals.'

The widely welcomed 2026 'IOC Policy on the Protection of the Female (Women’s) Category in Olympic Sport'
represents a complete about turn by the IOC effected by President Kirsty Coventry & Dr Jane Thornton.
Here's what happened under the previous administration.
The Athlete Ally letter attempting to suppress the voices of female Canadian high-performance athletes was signed by Madeleine Pape who was, at the time, working on rolling out the 2021 IOC Framework.

3) Secondly: no-one has said that M/F is dictated by SRY. The SRY screen is just that: a screen. If a person returns a +ve result then they undergo medical tests to determine their sex. Dr Hamilton knows this as they have read our paper that proposed it: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/…

No.
International Olympic Committee 'bans' males from female competition.
But not from male competition.
Because female competition is for females not males.
As it should always have been.
Please correct your headline.
International Olympic Committee Bans Transgender Women From Competition tinyurl.com/2ctphq5y

In reality, equality and fairness are aligned rather than in opposition anyway.
Respecting the human rights of women and girls to equality & non-discrimination in sport necessitates recognition rather than erasure of their female bodies.
Hence dedicated female sport categories.
Replying to @ChrisKirk_ASP
11) What about balancing fairness & equality? It is not possible. If males are allowed to compete against females, then fairness is completely gone. We could also argue that equality would be gone here too, as females lose their equality by losing their right to fair competition.

Great job, @iocmedia
Eligibility for the female category via SRY screening.
Trans-identifying males and athletes with androgenising DSDs to be excluded.
Well done to all involved, particularly to Kirsty Coventry and Jane Thornton for their leadership here.

Olympics to announce transgender ban in all women’s sport. The female category to be returned to females at the Olympics. This must also happen at grass roots & recreational. Sex based protected cannot only be for the top 1% telegraph.co.uk/gift/4166318…

What an insane bunch of cherry-picked metrics, cobbled together to try and argue that trans-identifying males should be in female sport.
