Nostos, my official submission for The Odyssey @grok @imagine contest This was adapted from Book 24 of the Odyssey when Odysseus reunites with his father after twenty years. I and many others see it as the emotional climax of the poem. This was my first time diving into these tools, and this was my first short using any generative tool! I want to thank @AVARY who has been one of many who is carrying the torch for these amazing tools and for inspiring me to jump in along with introducing me to the work of @cfryant and @rgaudetteai who have made phenomenal films. I also want to send a huge shout out to @DAMendelsohnNYC an incredible classicist who translated the most recent Odyssey. It’s phenomenal, buy it! Thank you, Daniel, for sharing the soul of Homer with us. Happy to discuss the short below! – at Minneapolis, MN
Homer had a lyre. You have Grok Imagine. Create a compelling scene from Homer’s The Odyssey that shows what Grok @Imagine’s video and voice capabilities can do. We’re awarding $100K, $50K, and $25K to the top three videos submitted by quoting this post. 🧵

Playing Super Mario 64 for 30 minutes a day for two months physically grew the brains of the people who played it. A 2014 study in Molecular Psychiatry scanned participants before and after two months of daily play and found increases in grey matter in three regions involved in memory, planning, and fine motor control. The study was led by Simone Kuhn at the Max Planck Institute in Berlin. She gave 23 adults a Nintendo DS and told them to play Super Mario 64 for at least 30 minutes a day for two months. A control group played nothing. MRI scans taken before and after showed that the Mario group had measurable increases in grey matter in the right hippocampus, the right prefrontal cortex, and the cerebellum, and the increases were not found in the control group. The hippocampus is where the brain stores spatial maps. Super Mario 64 is a game built entirely around navigating three-dimensional space, jumping between platforms, remembering which doors lead where, and building a mental model of a world that does not exist. The brain treats a virtual world the same way it treats a real one: it maps it, stores it, and grows to accommodate it. The prefrontal cortex handles planning and strategy, which the game demands constantly. The cerebellum handles timing and coordination, which every jump requires. The brain was not just entertained. It was being trained, and the tissue responded the same way muscle responds to a weight: it got bigger. Kuhn said the results suggest that video game training could be used as a therapy for conditions where these brain regions are reduced, including post-traumatic stress disorder, schizophrenia, and age-related brain shrinkage. The prescription is a plumber in a red hat, 30 minutes a day. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/2416…

If this is the level of AI creations, then it's over for Hollywood and big production houses. The city of New York filmed with a HD camera in 1993. Created using Seedance 2.5
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The AI video exhibits common generation errors such as duplicated buildings in the skyline and garbled text on signs, and does not match authentic 1993 New York footage. x.com/carlos_dnger/s… youtube.com/watch?v=fT4lDU… opus.pro/blog/ai-slop-a… invideo.io/faq/why-do-ai-…

Remember: There is no fun allowed on the internet. You must take everything very seriously all the time and allow the screen to control you. What you see outside your window is a mere illusion and has no bearing on your life. The truth lies here, inside the Internet. This place that can fully disappear in an instant if the wrong series of AWS outages take place. That is your true home.

Do you really want art and culture to remain something only a privileged few get to create? Or do you believe everyone should have the freedom to express their ideas and emotions through art? That’s what this debate has always been about: creative freedom vs. protecting the status quo.

I spent 25 years as a Filmmaker. Showrunning, directing, and producing TV, films, and commercials for dozens of major networks and global brands including Apple+, HBO Max, Discovery, MTV, YouTube Originals, and many more. Won an Emmy. Led crews of 300+. Led projects with Mark Hamill, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Kim Cattrall, Logic, the Kardashians, Nelly, Meek Mill, and a U.S. Presidential campaign. Then I went quiet. I became a Creative Technologist and AI Systems Architect. Spent the last few years heads down, learning every tool, trying every framework, breaking things, rebuilding them, pushing past the limits of what these systems can do. And my own limits. I iterated over and over and over. When something broke, I figured out why. When a tool couldn't do what I needed, I built the tool. When I hit a wall, I went around it. I'm now building custom agentic AI ecosystems — multi-agent systems that run 24/7, autonomously managing operations, generating content, and scaling business workflows for elite individuals and major companies. I haven't had this much fun in years. It's the same feeling I had as a kid picking up a camera for the first time — falling in love with something so deeply that you can't stop thinking about it. Except this time the creative possibilities are truly endless. We are only limited by our own fears — not the tools. I'm all in. This is where I'll share what inspires me, what I'm experimenting with, what I'm building, what I'm breaking, and everything I'm learning along the way — at the intersection of Tech, AI, Agentic Systems, and 25 years of creative leadership. Follow along if you're curious about the exciting and unknown that lays ahead — from someone diving in head first every day, not just talking about it.

I don’t think filmmakers using AI are replacing traditional filmmakers. I think we’re creating a new independent film movement where people are making ambitious work without waiting for a studio, large budget or permission. There is something rebellious and exciting in that.

Gal Gadot defends starring in Doug Liman's "Bitcoin" movie with AI sets and lighting because "the train has left the station. You’re going to work with it or be out of the game completely." “This was the longest contract I have ever worked on. It was six months for my lawyers to go through every scenario we could think about as far as the AI component of it. I did not want AI to have anything to do with my performance. We had to protect that... I am afraid of AI, but I am going to be afraid and look away? No. I am afraid but I am playing with it and learning it and trying to educate myself. The train has left the station. You’re going to work with it or be out of the game completely. I am trying to make the best of it and protect what I can protect. The AI component in this movie is for sets and the lighting. We had a broad crew and a lot of people were working on this movie.” “It felt like a pure art form of creating a movie. I haven’t seen a single shot. As an actress, I wait so much. There’s the legendary quote: ‘You are being paid to wait as an actor.’ Here we would film nonstop because we didn’t have to wait for lighting. We would film on and on and on for 10 hours. It was amazing… as actors you’re always hot. You don’t cool off. We’ll see. It’s crazy.” variety.com/2026/film/news/g…
