The time Jerffery Archer got the HIGNFY treatment.
As well as being a politician and highly successful novelist, don't forget Jeffrey Archer was a pretty nasty fraudster - like his father. In short, he was a crook. Many broadcasters - some who never dared ask him any tough questions - will gloss over that today.

Extraordinary statement after what we learned about #Grenfell. Breathtaking in fact
Cutting red tape costs taxpayers nothing. It’s a common sense solution to get Britain building.

Well put. The test, for me, is whether a director has actually listened to the work. Stone's Tristan hadn't. This Parsifal clearly has, and it earns the argument.
This is my beef with the Parsifal haters: they think stage directions should be sacrosanct. Up to a point they're right. I cannot abide productions that trash the opera (Simon Stone's direction of Tristan and Isolde was awful). But this Parsifal is enriched by ideas.

My wife used to be a book publicist. She said that by dying on the day before his new book is published Jeffrey Archer has played a blinder in PR terms.

He served prison time for perjury after extracting enormous damages in a libel case which destroyed a woman's life. He also lied relentlessly about almost everything. But he was a great friend of the people that matter, and that, my friends, is all that matters in this country.
Very sad to have had to announce the death of my friend Jeffrey Archer on the show last night. A man of talents, flaws, positivity and bouncebackability, with a zest for life. He was a terrific interviewee. He sometimes invited me to his flat on Albert Embankment as he loved political gossip. His trilogy of Prison Diaries remain the best books of the last 20 years on what life is like in prison. He sold 350 million books in 47 languages in 114 countries but the literary cogniscenti always looked down their noses at him. I tried in vain to get him to write his autobiography. Yes, he sometimes lacked judgement, no he never achieved his aim to be a front rank politician, yes he did some bad things. But what a life. What. A. Life. @Jeffrey_Archer

Yes, Archer was a gifted novelist. Yes, Camilla wrote as founder of a reading charity. But she's also patron of a domestic abuse charity, and that makes this blurred. Monica Coghlan was crucified in court so he could win £500k and her life left in tatters..He was later JAILED for lying in that same case. Calling him an 'irrepressible life force' sends a mixed message. If you stand with abuse survivors, should you ever praise a man who put a woman through hell?

Ok! This is getting on my last nerve. It's pronounced, ASK, not AXE. If you say, "I axed him", you are saying you attacked him with an axe. If you asked him a question, it's ASKED! This has been imported from America and is now in British and Irish conversations, and it's DOING MY HEAD IN!!!

Aged 86, the ‘master storyteller’, disgraced politician and serial fantasist Jeffrey Archer has died – mind you, we only have his word for it

Already nauseated by the outpouring of love for the dead Jeffrey Archer. Either they have short memories or they support his criminal activities because, after all, he wrote passable airport thrillers.

Good to read this perceptive reaction to one of the most thoughtful and intelligent Wagner stagings I've ever seen. Honestly, some of the other stuff you read here...
An incredibly moving and powerful performance of #Parsifal at @rbo_org tonight with a stellar cast @brinsherratt (my dream of hearing his Gurnemanz is happily full-filled), @GubanovaMezzo (stunning Kundry) and Stanislaus De Barbeyrac as a towering Parsifal. #roh #wagner

I love almost everything about Fred Zinnemann's wonderful 1973 film version of The Day of the Jackal, but not the supposedly covert meeting in a public park where one secretive toff scrawls a giant-sized 'CHA CAL' in thick black felt tip ink, block capitals, all over a newspaper.
