Today we have heard some outstanding speeches from NATO ally leaders. However, this one from the Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, was the one that spoke to me for sure. I think itโ€™s time to stop pretending to ourselves that the U.S. is anything but an impediment to solving this existential threat, to the welfare and safety of all our citizens. Let me quote Sun Tzu's The Art of War. โ€˜All warfare is based on deceptionโ€™ and for sure, Putin has waged a war of deception. He projected the historical power of the mighty Red army in a bid to quickly overrun Ukraine. He attempted to do it with untrained poorly equipped troops, on out of date rations. Putin rolled the dice thinking NATO would not commit troops to help defend Ukraine and he was right. What he didnโ€™t plan for, was the lion spirit of the Ukrainian people and the ingenuity of their military engineers. Their work with drones and sea drones has redefined battlefield strategy. Once allies started providing javelin anti-tank missiles and supporting artillery, the game changed. They prevented the Russians from achieving air superiority? And the Russian Black Sea Fleet had to retreat from port. It is testament to the Ukrainian army and air force, Russia has been held back against all the odds. Letโ€™s be clear, the military has achieved what it has, not because of us, but in-spite of us. We have only given them enough weapons to hold the bear back, not to evict it. There were constant delays, waiting on artillery shells, HIMARS and ATACMS, as well as tanks and F16s. WE HAVE LET THEM DOWN. Yet these brave men and women have innovated and made do, to defend not only their country, but our borders too. WE OWE THEM BIG TIME. Not with words and sympathy, but with the proper tools to get the job done. America has disgracefully walked away and aligned with our enemy. The U.S. presidentโ€™s pet, Elon Musk along with JD Vance, have meanwhile actively supported far right political parties in Europe. Then Vance had the audacity to turn up and lecture us on our own doorstep. What was our answer? โ€˜Please donโ€™t hurt usโ€™. This week, we see a slow procession of European leaders making the pilgrimage to the court of Mad King Don for a humiliation session. Pardon my French but โ€˜f*ck thatโ€™, itโ€™s time to stand tall and tell Trump to โ€˜f*ck right offโ€™ and if it were me. Iโ€™d tell him to take his airbases with him too and cancel all military arms contracts. If he wants access to Ukrainian minerals thatโ€™s fine. Ukraine HAS NO DEBT with the U.S. They simply have the thanks of a grateful nation. There was no loan agreement. If he wants mineral rights, then provide an arms package as a down payment for future revenues. Leave the deal on the table for a week and if itโ€™s not signed, pull the deal. Then they get nothing and in addition, no bids will be accepted from US companies for the reconstruction of Ukraine after the war. Now thatโ€™s the art of the deal. As for NATO allies, Trump is walking away regardless, so Europe needs to get its act together NOW. Seize Russian assets and use the funds to fire up the European military industrial base. This will create jobs and growth, while capacity is expanded in all countries with an arms manufacturing capability. In the meantime, we already have the ability, especially if Poland steps up, to defend against any increased Russian aggression. The British military has already said, if it were needed, we would meet that threat head on today. If this collective approach is taken, the Russian army in Ukraine could be crushed just as crushed the Iraqi army in Desert Storm. Itโ€™s time to show the Americans their services are no longer required. Then when the war is over, we can look to promote the Euro as the new global reserve currency. No harm in ambition I say. We need to believe in ourselves. Itโ€™s time to get the job done and show the world FAFO. Thereโ€™s only one village idiot in this town and itโ€™s not Zelenskyy. I rest my case.

Thames Water, which is over ยฃ16 BILLION in debt, has just been granted a ยฃ3 billion rescue loan. Last December it was still paying fat dividends to bosses and shareholders. This corporate greed and entitlement needs to be stopped. As Iโ€™ve said before: Itโ€™s fucking WATER.

I share @JeremyClarksonโ€™s emotions about Brexit - it makes me want to sit in a gutter and weep and scream! Clarkson says, โ€œPeople who voted for Brexit. Itโ€™s not so bad if they put their hands up and admit they made a mistake. But if I encounter someone who still thinks it was all a brilliant idea, I get so cross my hair catches fire and my teeth start to itch.โ€ โ€œBrexit hasnโ€™t made our lives better in any way that I can see. Itโ€™s bad enough these days going to Europe as a tourist, standing in the passport queue behind three million Nigerians and a plane-load of confused people from Japan. And then getting a text from Lisa, whoโ€™s already by the pool with a glass of wine, because sheโ€™s Irish.โ€ thetimes.com/article/535600aโ€ฆ

In 1968 Finland banned for profit education, the few private schools that exist in Finland have to reinvest any profit they make or pay it back to parents. It has been in the Top 3 in education for the last 20 years. There should be no profit in education or healthcare.

Some saying re yet another predicted energy price rise "why aren't you calling out corporate greed? " Well because it's irrelevant. An energy firms job isn't to keep our prices low, it's to make money for their shareholders (we as a nation sold them off in privatisation) As it stands its the regulator Ofgem and government who's job is to protect consumers from overly high prices. And that's where the issues lie. The price cap isn't set by firms, they aren't increasing it, its set by the regulator. It's a turgid system (that was pushed on the regulator by a past govt) and it's allowed firms to price to the max of the cap without pushing them hard enough to offer cheaper deals. I've long campaigned for change both in public, through official submissions and in private (so much so I ended up losing my rag and publically apologised for swearing in a meet with ofgem). We need a social tariff! I've long also called out excessive standing charges. Long said the market stabilisation charge (now thankfully gone) should end, as should, temporarily, the ban on acquisition only tariffs. I've said the ombudsman is too weak to enforce. I've said what makes up the price lacks transparency... the direct debit system is abused by firms to sit on too much cash... smart meter roll out is mistargeted and more. Yet of course my prime aim is to help consumers navigate this. The real excess profits aren't made by energy retailers (the regulated ones who supply us as consumers) but by the generators who aren't regulated by Ofgem (though in some cases horizontal integration means they're the same firm but they aren't legally allowed to cross subsidise). Our wholesale pricing structure has rewarded them by paying the highest price (eg gas) even when it's a far cheaper source (though that's outside my expertise area, so I don't comment much on it) The whole consumer energy market is mostly broken. We have a model based on competition but then 80% of homes are on regulated pricing, possibly the worst of both worlds. The issues are with the regulator and politicians (and govts of all colours have faded on this) to put the structures in place to protect consumers. It needs a fundamental rethink. Sadly, I don't see that happening no matter who is in govt. I won't stop pushing for change though
