Facebook bought a VPN for $200 million. The app was called Onavo. it promised to "keep you and your data safe" and "block dangerous websites." Buried in the small print: "Onavo collects your mobile data traffic. Because we're part of Facebook, we use this to improve Facebook products." Meaning Facebook could see every app you opened, how long you used it, and how much data it consumed. all of it flowing through their VPN. Feeding their competitor intelligence operation. Zuckerberg's internal emails showed he was specifically worried about Snapchat. its traffic was encrypted. Facebook couldn't see what was happening inside it. Onavo solved that. Unsealed court documents revealed Project Ghostbusters. Facebook used Onavo's infrastructure to run SSL man-in-the-middle attacks on Snapchat's encrypted traffic, they decrypted it, read it and used it to inform product decisions. and when Apple forced Onavo off the App Store in 2018 for data collection violations: Facebook didn't stop, they rebranded it "Facebook Research" and paid teenagers between 13 and 25 up to $20 a month to install it and grant root network access to their phones, recruited via ads on Instagram and Snapchat. Apple found out and banned that too. Facebook's statement: "market research helps companies build better products."

Given that Revolut has frozen my account 7 times and demanded utterly absurd things, genuinely sensitive stuff, over my 200-euro payments, it's pathetic that they'll hand over everything they have on you to any random forged government request…
‼️ BREAKING: Revolut handed over customers’ passport copies, verification selfies and full transaction histories to a malicious actor. The actor sent lawful government information-demand emails using a genuine government domain that passed domain authentication. Revolut later concluded they were not authentic. Affected customers were notified on Friday. What may have been disclosed ranges from name, date of birth and home address to account statements, withdrawal records and complete Bitcoin transaction history. The company says it has alerted the agency to the unauthorised mailbox on its domain, blocked the address and begun notifying regulators. It has not named the agency, explained how someone obtained a mailbox there, or given a number of affected customers. ZachXBT, who circulated the notices, believes the incident was limited in size and aimed at high-net-worth users.

⚠️ A message to anyone caught in the Revolut leak ⚠️ If you got the notification, assume your name is now on a list of people worth robbing. I was the victim of a home invasion after being targeted through a similar leak. Take this seriously. Alarm system, reinforced entry points, panic buttons, a safe room if you can manage it, legal self-defence options where you live. All of that on top of normal wallet opsec. Physical security is the part crypto people skip.

⚠️ ALERT: Revolut falls for a FAKE government request, exposing sensitive personal information of customers in a disturbing data breach. Revolut disclosed that it complied with a fraudulent government request using a spoofed official email and valid credentials, exposing PII belonging to a group of customers. The leaked data reportedly includes passports/driving licences, verification selfies, names, DOBs, occupations, home addresses, emails, phone numbers, IBANs, account statements and full transaction histories, including Bitcoin activity. No customer funds were reportedly lost and Revolut says its systems were not hacked. The company has notified affected users and regulators and blocked the source. Social-engineering attacks are on the rise, with attackers increasingly exploiting human trust and weak verification processes rather than technical vulnerabilities.

Revolut just handed over customers' passports, verification selfies & full transaction histories. To a scammer. The attacker sent fake government data demands from a genuine government domain. Revolut's compliance team processed them anyway. Everything you gave them to "verify" you is now in a criminal's hands. Name. Address. Bitcoin history. KYC was sold as "protection". It's become the ultimate honeypot.

Japan once tried to create its own operating system that could have become a global standard. The project, called TRON, started in the 1980s and was backed by Japanese companies and the government. They wanted to create an operating system that could be used across everything from computers to everyday electronics. In 1989, the US government raised concerns that TRON could give Japanese companies an unfair advantage and restrict US software companies from the Japanese market. TRON never became the global PC standard, Microsoft and Intel eventually dominated that market

This happened today at the Kanizsa Open in Hungary: The youngest participant in the event, 8-year-old Mark Hogyinszki, was paired against the oldest, Andras Babits, who will turn 85 on the day of the last round. There is a 77-year age gap between them. This is, to me, one of the most undervalued virtues of chess: its ability to connect people from different generations, not only parents and their children, but also grandparents and beyond. I spent a good deal of my childhood playing against old men, and if I am lucky enough to make it into my eighties, I’ll be happy to have my ass kicked at the chessboard by little kids – who in turn will have to listen to my stories as payback. 😆
