I’m sorry, but Clayface had NO BUSINESS giving Matt Hagen such a tragic backstory and then barely exploring it. 😭💀
Imagine growing up in an abusive household, never feeling genuinely loved, and becoming a man who desperately needs someone to choose him. Matt’s obsession with Caitlyn becomes so much darker when you realize he might have spent his entire life confusing love with validation.
But here’s the uncomfortable truth: a tragic childhood can explain a monster without excusing what he does to his victims. Matt deserved to be loved, but Caitlyn didn’t deserve to become the victim of his desperation.
He wanted to be loved so badly that he eventually became the very reason someone would be afraid to love him. And honestly? That’s the tragedy I wish the movie had the guts to explore. 💔

I wish the movie had gone deeper into Matt’s background and his desperation to be loved 😭. Him coming from a broken and abusive household is such a big driving point behind his obsessive style of love but the movie is not very strong at conveying it imo. #clayface

Imagine being pregnant for nine month and giving birth, only for you to find out that the men in your family have these thoughts. They would literally never speak to my child again.

WAIT, because this theory might actually explain Matt Hagen’s entire downfall in Clayface. 💀
What if Matt didn’t become obsessed with Caitlyn because he genuinely fell in love with her? What if the nanocells were slowly rewiring his brain because they had already been exposed to her DNA during her experiments?
Think about it. Caitlyn was testing the technology on herself before Matt ever came into the picture. Then Matt kept injecting more and more of those cells into his body, believing they would restore his face. What if, with every injection, he was unknowingly allowing a part of Caitlyn to take control of him?
And the most disturbing part? Matt might have genuinely believed those feelings were his own. Imagine losing your humanity, becoming a monster, and destroying everything you love without even realizing that your own body is manipulating you.
What if Caitlyn didn’t just give Matt the power to change his face, but accidentally turned him into someone biologically incapable of letting her go? 😭
If this theory is true, then we might have been blaming Matt for an obsession he never fully controlled. And that makes the entire movie WAY darker. #Clayface
Just a theory but i think he was obsessed with her because she was testing on herself, which means her DNA was also used on him
The way I see it is the cells she created have some sort of attachment to her so when he injected more and more the cells warped his mind overtime #clayface
