GitHub is not ready for the AI Agent era.
How do you give your agent GitHub access such that:
- it can only access private repos it is supposed to
- it can't read the secret
- it can use gh cli
- you can generate these access credentials programmatically when launching an agent?
You can't.
PATs? Can't create them programmatically.
GitHub Apps? Would have to install the app in every org and the token expires in 1h.
I just want 1 simple thing: when launching an agent in a sandbox, programmatically generate access credentials to selected repos with specific scope and have it work with gh + nono credentials injection.
And all autonomous coding AI Agents need the same for security.
