Below is part 2 of my chat with Louis Markos about C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien. Check it out...
Episode description:
In this two-part series, I talk with Dr. Louis Markos about C. S. Lewis, his conversion to Christianity, and how his friend, J.R.R. Tolkien, influenced his decision to become a believer in Christ. By way of conversation with Tolkien, Lewis came to the conclusion that Christianity was true myth. This realization helped Lewis not only make sense of the stories of the past (and the depths of all human longing), but it also had a profound effect upon the books and stories he would go on to write himself. Markos also takes listeners for a deep dive into Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, and The Silmarillion. He shows how they reflect Tolkien's Christian faith and highlights the classical virtues.

In this article (below) on UFOs, aliens, & demons, I interact a bit with a recent @nytimes piece that reported on how some Christians are thinking through the UFO / UAP subject...

When it comes to UFOs, I did a little digging, talked to people, and learned some stuff.
I'm convinced of two things: (1) credible people have incredible sightings, and (2) this is a strange topic that is littered with secrets. Big secrets.
When I asked one of my sources what questions I should be asking about UFOs, they replied: "You should ask 'Why the secrecy?'"
There's definitely a lot going on with this topic…
In the latest episode of The Bible (Unmuted), I chat with biblical scholar, Dr. Leslie Baynes, Professor of Religious Studies at Missouri State University, about her new book on C.S. Lewis. Dr. Baynes discusses Lewis’ views on Scripture, as well as his use and interpretation of biblical texts in both his fiction and his non-fiction.
I can’t think of Frodo’s statement at the end of Return of the King without thinking of the cross. Hate does a lot of damage; it’s a vicious virus. It invites—indeed, lures—us into the trap of seeking vengeance by promising us peace in return. But it’s always a lie.
To the contrary, Christ is the Truth; he is the Way—only in him and by him and through him can we find what we’re really looking for.
“It is useless to meet revenge with revenge: it will heal nothing.” -Frodo
I had great time talking to Leslie Baynes about one of my favorite, all-time heroes -- namely, C.S. Lewis. I recently read Baynes' new book, "Between Interpretation & Imagination: C.S. Lewis and the Bible," and it was a pleasure to chat with her further on the podcast about her research. Fun discussion! The episode comes out this Thursday. In the meantime, here's a snippet!
