A list of China's tools for controlling tech exports from the new @merics_eu report.
Informal measures are as important as formal ones. I think of China's retaliation against South Korea over THAAD when a bunch of Lotte stores were closed due to alleged fire safety code violations.
This sentence from the report is worth highlighting:
"While its aggressive efforts at appropriating foreign technology have long been a prime cause for concern, foreign governments and firms now face an additional challenge: As Chinese companies ascend critical technology value chains, Beijing appears intent on monitoring and limiting foreign access to those."
