HOW EASILY CAN YOU CREATE VELOCITY? The day after a heavy pulldown session, we use 3 oz catch as part of our active recovery work. The goal? Take some stress off the arm while allowing athletes to feel loose, quick, and whippy through their throwing motion. Here’s where it gets interesting. Athletes who rely on muscling up to throw hard often struggle to create backspin and velocity when throwing with lighter intent. Creating tension isn’t the problem. It’s WHEN you create it. Tension too early in the throwing motion can lead to unnecessary stress and inefficient movement. We’re not necessarily chasing radar gun numbers on these lighter throwing days.
