Meet Ruby! We rescued her yesterday from Basset Rescue Across Texas. She was terribly abused and is scared of her shadow, men and loud noises. With lots of love, good food, treats and patience we know she will blossom into a confident dog. We love you, Ruby! 😘

Mornings with mum 💕 Early am, the world is still dark. Everything is quiet. Chillin’ with Ruby continues. Healthy routines matter not just for healing an abused pup but also for regulating an adult! Here’s to the end of a long week and the start of a great weekend.

Halloween is a strange evening for hypervigilant rescue dogs like Ruby. The doorbell rings a lot. Strange looking creatures crowd the front door. The smell of candy is in the air. Hiding is the answer. So is a mean stare down at the front door. “Stay away”-Ruby ❤️‍🩹

The Ruby Sploot. This is a constant in our home. Here a sploot, there a sploot everywhere a sploot sploot. What’s cool in this video is her back is to both of us. That means two things for dogs: She feels safe (w/papa there!) She’s protecting her pack(us) Pretty cool!

Happy Halloween! Couldn’t decide what Ruby needed to be for Halloween. When you’re this cute, you make the perfect backdrop for pretty much any costume. So a pretty Holland Princess for the win! Hope everyone has a lot of candy and smiles tonight. 🎃👻

Party on the patio w/Ruby! Lots of healing has happened in this short video of Ruby having fun outside. Not a bad memory in sight. Just a silly pup being playful, loving the cool weather and play bowing to her once feared papa. Good girl Ruby!

The face that launched a thousand smiles in my heart It’s amazing how such a terrified little scrawny rescue nugget could show up in our lives almost 2 years ago this December and heal my own heart that was dealing with a heavy loss. Dogs really are God spelled backwards. ❤️‍🩹

Our little RubyRoo is a multi tasker. Whatever do I mean? Simultaneously, she is able to perform her show for the adults while also assume her Toy Management duties as the Director. Could this rescue muffin be any more efficient? Or silly… See ya, Mr. Mallard! 🦆

Outside Ruby & Papa If you’ve followed our story, you know Ruby has an abuse history w/men. Getting her to trust hubby has been an exercise in patience, love & time. 22 months. A first. We had to pretend it was no big deal that she approached & nudged his hand for scratches!

Ruby and mastering the pathetic look. I’m mean, seriously. If an Oscar were available for the category of “Most Forlorn and Fretful” this little rescue muffin would win. She’s living the life of a queen now, but still can master a look to induce human guilt. 🏆🥇

RubyRoo is back w/Papa 🍗 We’ve been away. Which always means Ruby has to “remember” Papa is a good man. Not like that “bad man” jerk from her past. Ruby also always shows more bravery when she has to adjust to changes. Hubby is very patient and Ruby now hangs out w/him 🍗

Miss Kourt and RubyRoo When we rescued Ruby, she was an emotional wreck pile from abuse. Kourt helped us teach Ruby she doesn’t have to fear hubby. Her lessons helped start the bond between them & also between Ruby and Kourt! Trauma has its own timeline. @hearthandhounds

Ruby update #2! It’s official. Our little rescue nugget has figured out Kourt is a kind and loving caregiver. Look at this sweet face. Day 3 of us being out of town and all is well. Heading home soon! 🐾🐾🥰

A Ruby update! She’s doing good! So proud of this girl. We’ll be home in a couple days sweet babygirl. 💕💕

Another little adventure Ruby didn’t ask for is happening this weekend. Miss Kourt is coming over today to watch our sweetie through the weekend. How dare mum & papa head out of town for a wedding? She’ll be fine. Ruby always seems to be stronger afterwards. Good girl 💕

RubyRoo and a new something….. This is what happens when you visit & meet our little rescue nugget. You fall in love with her nervous sweetness. Auntie El can’t stop mailing her random toys & treats now. This might be called Ruby’s Job Security! It’s ok. She’s worth it! 💝

The elusive Ruby Howl. When it happens, everyone stops to listen. “What is that strange sound?” Apparently, her tail and her howl are both connected. She can’t do one without the other getting involved. She’s a happy hound. 🥰🐾🐾

Playtime on the patio with Ruby and her Papa! When we first adopted this rescue nugget, she refused to come outside w/hubby. Then she moved (after MONTHS) to sitting in the grass & staring. Then she stayed 6ft away. Now? She takes food. She sniffs. He scratches her chin 🎉

Our Director Of Toy Mgmt has long hours. But if the job isn’t done, the day isn’t over! Ruby has a complaint. Mum keeps dragging all the toys out to the family room, and Ruby must keep taking them back to the sunroom. It’s a never ending job. But the pay is good: 🐔🍗🍖🧀
