I hope this clears the long running debate, nothing else causes severe sustained pollution except Farm Fires.
Delhi NCR is all red this morning with AQI figures in the range of 350 - 800 across most stations on 4th November. Stubble burning fires across Pakistan, Punjab and Haryana had drastically increased in last 24 hours. With the flow of slow north west winds, the thickest layer of #Smog plume has seen settled over #Delhi NCR and adjoining central, south west #Haryana resulting in worst morning with highest AQI so far at many stations. No major improvement expected today.

UPA-era journalists either marry UPA politicians or become MPs from UPA parties, yet audaciously call others Godi media as if they aren't the original lapdogs.

Old NDTV video, but worth revisiting. Sambit Patra said what few had the guts to declare on a TV show - that NDTV had an agenda- and it clearly touched a raw nerve! Entitled journalists like @Nidhi think only media has the right to question but nobody has the right to question the messenger. Her marriage with OA is a reflection of the cozy nexus that existed between journalists & politicians in the UPA days. These same journalists today take a high moral ground and disdainfully dismiss channels as Godi Media when they sat in the godi of politicians quite literally in the good old days 🫢🤫 @ndtv @DeKoderAI

In-case you missed India in 2011: Nearly 58 out of every 100 people lived below the World Bank's lower-middle-income poverty threshold. India in 2023: That number had fallen to approximately 16 out of every 100 people. India in 2011: More than one-fourth of the population lived in extreme poverty. India in 2023: Extreme poverty had declined to just 2.6%. These comparisons reveal the magnitude of India's transformation in little more than a decade. The World Bank's October 2026 brief estimates that 496 million Indians moved above the $4.20/day poverty line during this period. Behind this decline are stronger household consumption, expanding employment and social protection measures that helped support vulnerable populations. India's development story becomes even more powerful when we compare where the country stood in 2011 with where it stood in 2023. The distance travelled is extraordinary.

As a neurosurgeon, let me tell you how frightening this injury actually is - an occipital compound depressed skull fracture treated with a WIDE craniotomy (outer staple line). What's scary isn't the fracture; it's what's adjacent to the damaged skull. The axe blows (that tree-branch scar at the center) hit right over the posterior superior sagittal sinus, a large vein that runs lengthwise between the 2 cerebral hemispheres and carries blood from the brain to the heart. Penetrating injuries to the sinus can carry upwards of a 40% morbidity/mortality - partially because a transection of the sinus can be difficult to repair and can result in extreme blood loss, venous air embolism, or thrombosis - all of which can be fatal. There's scary, and then there's the "you go to elevate the fracture and risk unroofing the sinus, losing 2 liters of blood in a minute" scary. The surgeons likely had their hands full and did an amazing job. Divine providence called many heroes into service that day. Damn fine work. धन्यवाद

19 years ago, when my 1st company got bought, I had to decide between buying a house in Palo Alto or a McLaren F1 (best car ever imo). Was no contest. I bought F1 & a small condo that was much cheaper than the car. New Tesla Roadster will exceed all gas sports cars in every way…

Rupee shorts, no point fighting RBI. India’s PPP GDP is almost 5 times its USD GDP. That means rupee is extremely cheap fundamentally when dollar cycle itself is turning. Fighting RBI when fundamentals are against you won’t end well. 100 is not happening. The great pivot is here.

The number of active companies in India has risen by a third in three years: 1.6mn to 2.2mn. Whether due to formalization of existing businesses or creation of new firms, this can only be due to i) easier regulations; ii) falling cost of capital. Much distance to travel on both fronts, but side-effects are already showing on the second one. As the gradient of cost of capital reverses (global cost of capital is up, India's is down), capital flows are scarcer. The lazy recommendation is to raise rates, or to raise fiscal spending. A more prudent approach would be to i) further ease capital inflows (e.g. the recent relaxation for bond investors); ii) raise demand for local capital (i.e., create more opportunities locally) - e.g., Rs6 trillion of fund-raises likely this year. At the interval, Morley ran into Ringo Starr, the Beatles drummer, who asked if he knew who this Archer bloke was. Morley replied that everyone was trying to figure out who it was, to which the greatest drummer of all time replied: “He strikes me as a nice enough fella, but he’s the kind of bloke who would bottle your piss and sell it.” As far as epitaphs go, that’s perhaps the best description of the man who rewrote the bestseller charts, moved between Parliament and the peerage, survived financial ruin and tabloid scandal, went from the Old Bailey to Belmarsh, and still emerged to sell hundreds of millions of books around the world. Archer spent half a century writing about conmen, politicians, tycoons, rogues and impossible comebacks. In the end, none of his protagonists was quite as improbable, indefatigable or entertaining as Jeffrey Archer himself.

Your parents won’t see you grow old. Your partner never knew you as a child. Your kids will barely remember you young. Even your closest friends only know parts of your story. You’re the only one who lives every chapter. Be kinder to the person who’s been there through it all. You.

Son of a fraud and bigamist who fled to the USA, Jeffrey Archer joined Oxford for a one year diploma and stayed around for three years, running the 100ms for both his university and Great Britain. Became a Conservative MP when 29, lost all his money five years later on a fraudulent investment scheme and started writing as a way to make money. And then wrote some of the best page turners ever, starting with Not A Penny, Not a Penny Less followed by Kane and Abel and First Among Equals. He also went to jail for perjury, once got caught trying to pay a prostitute, and was accused of financing a coup in Equatorial Guinea. And still went on to become the Baron Archer of Weston-super-Mare for his work with a Kurdish charity His own life could easily rival any of his most interesting works! RIP Jeffrey Archer, also a test cricket nut who once described himself as the Sachin Tendulkar of England!

Best travel hack in India is very simple. Never visit a tourist destination when everyone else is visiting. You pay 2x for hotels, get stuck in traffic, wait everywhere and can't even enjoy the place peacefully.
