Last night, I had the honor of awarding Nicole Magic of the Police Foundation of Colorado Springs with the Spirit of Colorado Springs Inspiration Award. Since 2009, Nicole has championed the people who protect Colorado Springs. She created the Police Foundation of Colorado Springs and helped build an organization that connects community support with the needs of Colorado Springs Police Department officers, employees and their families. Under her leadership, the Foundation has raised more than $2.3 million in support of the Colorado Springs Police Department. Those resources have helped provide trauma kits and ballistic vests, supported professional development and scholarships for children of CSPD employees, and strengthened the department’s K9 unit, victim advocacy and wellness efforts. For 17 years, Magic has also helped lead the effort behind the annual Medal of Valor Dinner, ensuring members of law enforcement who demonstrate extraordinary courage and service receive community recognition. As part of last night’s event, nineteen officers received Medals of Valor for their actions in five separate incidents. The award recognizes extraordinary heroism in extremely dangerous situations where an officer faces an imminent risk of serious bodily injury. Seven officers received Distinguished Service Awards. These awards recognize officers who displayed courage while carrying out their duties despite an imminent risk of serious bodily injury. In a first for CSPD, K9 Roam & Co. received the Police Canine Medal of Courage, a new meritorious service award. Roam is the first CSPD service animal to receive the honor. The award recognizes a police canine that sustains serious injury while performing official duties and makes a significant contribution to a law enforcement operation or the safety of others. @CSPDPIO @PoliceFndofCOS

One of the greatest privileges of serving as mayor is getting to meet the people who make @CityofCOS such a special place to call home. Professional football is coming to Colorado Springs! 🏈🏔️ Today, @TheUFL announced it’s bringing a team to the City of Colorado Springs ahead of the Spring 2027 season. Bringing professional football to downtown Colorado Springs is a vote of confidence in our city and in what we have built downtown. A UFL team will put Colorado Springs in front of a national audience, bring fans to Weidner Field, home of @SwitchbacksFC, and give southern Colorado a professional football team to call its own. We are proud to welcome the UFL to the foot of Pikes Peak – America’s Mountain, and we look forward to seeing our community make this team its own. @VisitCOS @DowntownCS

It was an honor to join firefighters, families, and loved ones from across the United States and Canada for the 40th annual IAFF Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial here in Colorado Springs. This gathering reminds us that behind every name on the Wall of Honor is a story of courage, service, sacrifice, and love. To the families of the fallen: we see you, we stand with you, and we honor the sacrifice of your loved ones. Long before the first big storm arrives, our snowplow drivers are already preparing: sharpening their skills, practicing behind the wheel, and getting ready to keep @cityofcos moving. When I visited our Public Works crews at their annual Snow School, what impressed me most wasn’t the equipment. It was the people. These dedicated employees understand what’s at stake when the snow starts falling. By keeping our roads clear, they help all of us make it to our destinations safely.

Five years ago, Shawna Lippert and I served as colleagues in Economic Development. I’m proud to name her @CityofCOS’ next Economic Development Officer. I’ve had a front-row seat to Shawna’s growth, leadership, and impact. She understands our business community, knows how to build strong partnerships, and she is committed to helping businesses and entrepreneurs succeed. Congratulations, Shawna! I’m proud of you and excited for this next chapter. I am looking forward to the work ahead as we continue building a strong and resilient Colorado Springs economy.

Congratulations to Judge Kristen Hoffecker, who I had the honor of swearing in as Presiding Judge of the Colorado Springs Municipal Court. For the first time in 19 years, a new Presiding Judge is stepping forward to lead our Municipal Court. Judge Hoffecker has earned my confidence and respect through her character, judgment, and commitment to service. I know she will lead with fairness, empathy, integrity, and a deep sense of responsibility to our community. I look forward to this next chapter of your leadership and service to Colorado Springs!

Twenty-five years ago, this morning, I stood with my coworkers watching the unimaginable unfold on television. I still remember the moment we understood that America was under attack. Today, we remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001. We remember the families whose lives changed forever. And we remember those who responded to that terrible moment with extraordinary courage and service. Firefighters climbed the stairs while others came down. Police officers ran toward danger. Service members answered the call. And ordinary Americans reached out to help strangers simply because they were fellow Americans. That is bravery worth remembering. We will never forget.

When I first moved to @cityofcos, running with the Attack Pack helped me discover this city one trail at a time. But more importantly, it helped me find community. That’s one of the things I love most about our parks, trails, and open spaces. They do more than connect us to the incredible beauty of Colorado Springs—they connect us to each other. It was a joy to get back out with the Attack Pack and experience the newly opened portion of the Blodgett Open Space. These are the places where friendships are formed, community is built, and a city starts to feel like home. 👟⛰️

Good news for @cityofcos: our Sales and Use Tax revenues are trending stronger than expected. Year-to-date revenues are up 6% compared to 2025, and August alone was up 11% year over year. That means the City revenue is currently coming in stronger than budgeted — a positive sign for our local economy and our ability to continue delivering the services residents depend on. From recruits in training to officers ready to serve. What a journey! I had the opportunity to spend time with the 84th Police Officer Class during their academy training, and it was a privilege to be back with them at graduation to celebrate this milestone. These @CSPDPIO officers earned their badges through months of discipline, hard work, high standards, and accountability. Together, we are building one of the safest cities in the country. BIG news for @cityofcos! 🏅🥍 Colorado Springs will host the first-ever 2027 World Lacrosse Sixes Championships. This event will bring 32 national teams and seven days of world-class competition to @WeidnerField. Even more exciting, this championship will be a key @Olympics qualification event on the road to the @LA28 Games, where lacrosse returns to the Olympic program. This is Olympic City USA at its best: bringing together sport vitality, economic vitality, and city flourishing while inspiring the next generation.
