So the UK ID Scraping Act...sorry Social Media Ban is laid out After a consultation of 116K people (0 privacy and digital safety experts BTW) all 68 million of us must suffer handing our private info to any random company if we wish to watch youtube, - youtube.com/watch?v=4hC6cr3l…

use communication features in games, play past 00:00 (good luck if you have a late hours job I guess and want to play with international friends...), have a basic barrier of anonymity online as a safety measure (even for perfectly innocent reasons like stopping identity theft) -

(Which this measure would only make more likely to occur as those ID's have a tendency to leak or be sold more easily) All instead of a simple on-device set-up that takes 5 MINUTES TO DO, and home router protections that also TAKE 5 MINUTES!

I'm really starting to get sick and tired of being hated simply for being English I haven't done anything to anybody, I haven't hurt anybody, I don't hate anybody truly, yet I must apparently also self flagellate myself for simply existing at the whim of everyone else

Okay so my first World Cup post and it's to say this; If Norway were playing literally ANY OTHER TEAM the "wire controversy" wouldn't exist and they'd say "just play on it's not worth worrying about" But England gets the usual hate, as always

To anyone and everyone finding out about the UK govt's plans for altering youtube's algorithm to enforce state propaganda....we warned you We warned you at the onset of the Online Safety Act. We warned you when they announced their Social Media Ban plans. We keep warning you

So if parental controls are the best form of protection, so much so that the UK govt are advising parents how to use them and making ISP companies ensure it's visible/usable...why are they continuing with the data collecting age verification increase?! youtu.be/rpWHRHsttPw?si=-emc…

This translates to: "I feel very comfortable about this invasion of my privacy because of the current political climate." The definition of 'hate speech' can change from one government to the next.
If banning social media for U16s means linking a profile to an ID to verify age then I think that's all the more reason to do it. If you are worried about legal repercussions of what you are saying on SM then that's a pretty good hint that you probably shouldn't be saying it.

Translation: We are making every adult verify themselves to use social media Plus it goes without saying that "returning kids childhoods" while doing nothing to support kid friendly spaces in the real world is insane You'll do a Digital ID via a backdoor mission creep Scumbag
We are banning social media access for under 16s. These days kids must find their feet in a world where technology intrudes into every area of their life. I just can’t let that go on anymore. So we’re giving children their childhoods back.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The UK Government's 'careful review' of the research found a small correlation between children's use of social media and wellbeing, but no evidence of a causal effect: gov.uk/government/pub… assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/696e0b46…

youtube.com/watch?v=hCn5BXsb… The more we hear about the @UKLabour govt's Social Media Ban, the more it sounds like a totalitarian state, encircling a net on freedom to sound like they're shielding kids...while doing nothing to actually protect kids Tomorrow the noose tightens 1/2

To all who'd say "it'll not happen here" that's what we thought. First it was doing age checks to block against pornography, now it's age checks and govt spyware to "protect" against social media, tomorrow who knows what will happen. 2/2

And this will only give the UKgovt more justification in their eyes to do MORE AUTHORITARIAN bullshit They'd rather sell every UK citizen's identity to Palantir/Persona before admitting they made a mistake They are maliciously, ridiculously, incompetent nanny-state authoritarians
A new report shows many children in the UK are drawing fake moustaches with makeup or pencils to bypass age checks on social media and apps. This simple trick fools the face scan tools that check if users are old enough. One parent caught her 12-year-old son using an eyebrow pencil, which made the system think he was 15, and about one in three children say they get around the rules this way.

Welcome to Authoritarian Britain The concept of being scanned into a database to make sure you're not a criminal because you just walked down the street is INSANE! If ANY UK resident claims we're living in a free society I have a bridge to sell them! All of London is a prison now
The Metropolitan Police has won a judicial review into the use of Live Facial Recognition across London. The court concluded the Met’s policy complies with human rights law and contains clear and effective safeguards.

So the @UKLabour party are now trying to change the law so Liz Kendall herself, with no oversight or control, can dictate what websites or online services are available in the UK under the guise of "protecting kids", yet without Ofcom's regulation youtu.be/P8w8Ln66qgg?si=Pd_0… 1/?

and tomorrow it's services like What'sApp because they don't allow the UK govt to bread end-to-end Encryption to spy on our private messages. The UK is rapidly becoming an authoritarian state for the guise of "protection" by erasing freedom. Laying the ground work for actual 3??

authoritarian governments to have a much easier time in doing things without the will of the people. It's no longer conspiracy, it's their lack of competence, or lack of foresight, that will do this. I am genuinely scared of being silenced at the whims of one person now.
