Token usage on subscription vs credits.
Again, I'm glad subscriptions exist. Pay-as-you-go credits seems so much more expensive.
Tonight:
On ChatGPT $200/mo plan, doing a bit of personal coding this evening. A few threads going with Astra. nothing hectic.
Glanced at my weekly limit: 0%, what? Oh wow – I'd hit my weekly limit, and it switched over to using credits: 35,000 credits in past ~day (it would cost $1,400 to buy back 35,000 credits).
I hit "reset" (one of my three resets available) to reset my weekly limit, and return to using my subscription.
~3 hours later, I'm down to 59% of my weekly limit again. 🫠
So just now, I've switched all Codex threads from 6-Astra-med to 6.1-Sol-med. I have Claude supervising Codex tonight (Codex is doing the work, Opus 5.5 is adversarial and advising). I just asked Claude to keep an eye on token use (e.g., retire long threads, start afresh).
Similar story last May: it took work to run down my $200 usage, so I bought $200 of credits to keep going. "Aaaaaand they're gone!" in a fraction of the time.
I'm not even mad - this time when I run out of codex resets, I'll happily be upgrading to the $500 plan. Clankers are cranking out some good shit in fairness.

100s of developers reached out for this @link + agent identity API. If you'd like to be bumped up the waitlist to try it, please send your use case (in ~5 bullets, if you can) to jweinstein@stripe.com.
🆕 We now have a way for businesses to _prove_ an agent is acting on behalf of a verified @link user.
This unlocks sites and services to more safely offer content, APIs, products, or anything else to agents.
Wanna play with this new API and give feedback? Reach out. 🤖🔎✅
Bummer I won’t be in town, but RTing because others should Carpe Greg!
I'm headed to San Francisco next week. First trip away since my son was born two months ago!
My life right now is 3am feedings, a toddler running around, and building in the gaps. Nap time is my new deep work block.
So when I say I'm excited to sit at a dinner table and have a full conversation with adults about AI agents and startup ideas without anyone throwing food at me, I mean it.
I'll be in town for a few days. If you're building something interesting, I'd love to buy you dinner and hear about it.
Who wants to hang out in SF?
Pocahontas introduced me to the ancient Greek philosopher Heraclitus, when she sang, "You can't step in the same river twice; the water's always changing, always flowinggggg…"
Well, you can't wake up to the same Stripe twice. The code is always changing, PRs closing…
Stripe is constantly evolving. We want to have continuous deployment of our api. We want to be able to react to feedback from users multiple times per day.
Obviously AI is making us even faster at shipping (new features products)… but what about reliability?
"Everyone in the industry looks to Stripe as the company that sets the bar for reliability", says @bcherny (creator of Claude Code). Today, Stripe boasts 99.9995% uptime for core APIs.
The good news is: it's now possible to build new observability, new harnesses, and new kinds of automated scrutiny. @PatrickC says he reckons "AI, on net, will make Stripe quite a bit more reliable." 😮
The full interview, with gems like "shower thoughts get translated to actual existence; I think the returns to being curious have gotten much higher" and predictions for when agent↔agent transactions will be the majority of online payments, is on youtube.com/watch?v=S_lzYIvt…

🆕 You can now use your transaction history as context to personalize any agent with @link. How you spend oddly encodes a lot about you.
1/ Prompt: “setup link.com/skill.md and use financial insights”
2/ Connect cards and bank accounts
3/ Agent securely calls Link for data

"What's it like to work at Stripe?"
I attempted to answer this with a "show, don't tell".
Instead of giving a presentation, I quickly flipped through browser tabs (mainly from that day).
It seems these comments resonated:
"Demos > Memos" → get out of GDocs, start building!
"Prototype as source of truth" (@miles_matthias phrase).
@joewalnes' evergreen reminder: get something in front of users quickly, then iterate fast.
How Stripe feels more like a small, fast-moving startup than a big, lumbering company. Yes, we love a shared Slack channel with users. We hop on calls to deeply understand our users. We expect fast turnaround times from each other.
Ideas can come from anywhere or anyone.
Similarly with constructive feedback; we can all highlight even tiny friction, to raise the bar. Use your own product, again and again. ("Moriarty charged a new hire $5 that day to prove Tap to Pay on iPhone works, and kept the money" 🤣 )
1/5 @StripeDev meetups are back in SF.
A lunch idea shipped in weeks, agents checking product claims & wallets w/ spending limits.

Oh fun feature from @snipd_app - speed up speakers by different amounts!
In your podcasts, who would you speed up most/least?
I’m a big fan of my Meta Ray-Bans as an ambient podcast/music player (great sound quality). Ears are open. I’m approachable and able to chat comfortably. But there still is sometimes awkwardness if folks recognize them as camera glasses and don’t know for sure that they’re not recording (or about to record).
I’ll probably buy these:
Replying to @finkd
Shipping our first pair of audio glasses -- our lightest frames yet -- with no camera and all-day battery.
This AI-generated office looks cool!
the shuttle up through the fog to Oyster Point, a red phone box inside a payments company, and a café already full before anyone had said a word.
Thank you @StripeDev , @MbyM, Chethan Shriyan, Hasan Tariq and @DeividasMat ...

1/ I'm joining @OpenAI to lead Creator Product after over 13 years since starting @Patreon. Coming with me are my favorite crew Drew Rowny and Shannon Ma, Patreon's (now former) Head of Product and Head of Engineering. We're going to build together with Creators at OpenAI and share early access to a new set of tools that I think will be critically valuable to Creators and their communities.

Use Stripe-hosted surfaces (like Checkout) and you get the latest features for free, again and again.
Hi internet! We went ahead and upgraded all @stripe hosted checkout pages for 7.8M businesses—0.45% of the world’s GDP—with WebMCP so agents can more efficiently buy. Our evals show this reduces checkout latency by 39% and token usage by 42%.
