Enjoying our last day here, before flying home tomorrow, it might take me a few days to get used to the change in temperature.

Can you help me? I’m looking to monetise off of this scurrilous site - and why not? So, would you do me the most enormous favour and react to this - comment, retweet, whatever. I’m feeling rather militant and with lots of things to say about the UK, the US, EU and elsewhere. You might not agree with me, but I’m gonna spout it all the same. Argue with me all you like too, but with considered comment, not rude and crude ones. It’s dull and boring. I don’t do ad hominem shit - neither should you. Geddit? I thank you in anticipation. Oh, the painting, for it is a real painting, not AI shit, was done by a good friend of mine - oil on canvas. Dale Webster his name. A very good portrait artist indeed.

UK govt plans Β£1bn energy bills help for poorer households. Must cut energy profit margins, levy 100% windfall tax on excess profits. UK energy sector is mostly foreign-owned. Dividends paid without any UK tax deduction. End the perks, raise billions. theguardian.com/money/2026/o…

Anyone who reads any transcript of Trump's recent rally speeches, where he talked about LA and SD being attacked, or bad things he could do, or ominous things he is planning, or even Time's recent interview with him - ANYONE reading ANY of that - would clearly conclude that the biggest story on Earth, THIS day and EVERY day, is that the President of the United States is seriously unwell and allowed to continue in office - unfit, untethered, and unchecked. It's unbelievable.

5 things people should know about Trump’s Iran war 1. Trump’s Iran war has cost the average American household at least $1,200 2. The Pentagon hid the number of fatalities in Trump’s Iran war 3. The average family has spent nearly $700 more on gas since Trump started his war 4. Commanders were warned Iran was ready to strike a military post they sent soldiers anyway and six died 5. Trump’s Iran war drove 40% of inflation in the 2nd quarter of 2026

This is oligarchy: If you paid $1 in income taxes in 2019, 2020 or 2023, you paid more than Larry Page & Sergey Brin, Google’s co-founders, who became $400 billion richer since 2019. Now, Brin is spending $138 million to oppose a 5% billionaire wealth tax in CA. Disgusting.

Labour is planning to spend Β£1 billion supporting low-income households with rising energy costs. That is welcome. But if soaring wholesale prices are driving both higher household bills and exceptional profits for parts of the energy industry, why shouldn’t some of that support be funded by a temporary additional windfall levy on excess UK oil-and-gas and electricity-generation profits? I really don't understand why Labour is so shy of windfall taxes on excess profits, and expects the taxpayer to fund this instead.

My husband told me in August he can't handle our kids for two days. I had told him about a girls weekend I got invited to. He can't handle them for more than a few hours at a time. Tonight I told him I'm going. I'll prep meals for him to eat while I'm gone. I told him he needed to talk to his mom and arrange extra help if he needed it. This is something I need. I'm not going to let him change my mind. I already informed his mom and made her aware of whats going on.

Energy costs gone up by 300% but lets attack the ScotGov over rates instead of Westminster especially whenever Labour blocked zonal pricing for Scotland which would have meant the cheapest energy costs in UK.
John Swinney won't be able to pop into his local for a pint any more. Brown & Blacks in Scone is run by an entrepreneur called Katie Long. Her story sums up everything that's wrong with business rates. Katie put around Β£140,000 of her own money into the business. She's done everything she can to make it work. Her energy costs have risen from Β£25,000 a year to over Β£100,000. But the real stinger is that her business rates have gone up from under Β£20,000 to over Β£52,000. How is anyone supposed to make a living with that? Now think about the knock-on effect: potential job losses at a time of high unemployment, which means less tax coming in and a greater burden on the state. The First Minister has appointed Jonathan Murphy to look at rates. So here's my offer to Jonathan: let's spend a day together visiting the businesses whose livelihoods are threatened by the current system.

Telling an eighty-year-old woman to "check the portal" for serious biopsy results is cruelty disguised as digital efficiency. My 82-year-old aunt had a lung biopsy done two weeks ago. The doctor told her they’d have the pathology report ready within five business days. Friday afternoon rolled around. No call. She dialed the clinic’s main desk, her voice shaking with anxiety. The receptionist cut her off before she could finish explaining: β€œDoctor doesn’t give results over the phone anymore. All lab findings are automatically released to your MyChart patient portal.” My aunt said, β€œSweetheart, I don’t have a computer. I have a landline on my kitchen wall. Can the doctor just tell me if I have cancer?” The receptionist sighed into the receiver: β€œIt’s hospital network policy. We can’t bypass the portal. You’ll have to have a family member create an account and view the file.” My aunt spent an entire seventy-two-hour weekend sitting in her recliner, gripping her reading glasses, convinced she was dying. I drove out to her house on Monday morning, set up a profile on my laptop, and pulled up the records. The result was benign. The pathology report had been uploaded four days earlier. A doctor spent three minutes clicking an upload button, and an elderly woman endured four days of sheer psychological terror because the hospital decided a phone call was too expensive. Since when did delivering medical news become a self-service task?
