Pre-order @MeghnaPant's 'The Man Who Lost India' now!
The year is 2032. China declares war on India. Pillage and plunder ensues. The war comes to an abrupt halt when a supernatural event saves the obscure town of Lalbag from annihilation. Even as China renews its efforts to invade Lalbag, a greater calamity awaits this sleepy town. A Chinese cop stumbles upon a dangerous secret that threatens to end the town’s immunity. A fierce and forbidden love between a servant and his mistress destroys two families. Meanwhile, the town’s richest man becomes afflicted with a terrible disease, the town beauty goes mad when her love betrays, and a psychic turns water into blood, sending the town and its people deeper into tragedy.
A dystopian never-been-done-before tale set in – and between – China and India, The Man Who Lost India is a powerful portrayal of love, strife and family in the wake of the 21st century’s biggest war. Incantatory and atmospheric, this is Meghna Pant’s most ambitious novel yet, full of beauty, bloodshed and undeniable feminist power.

There's a new version of this post
Rohinton Mistry, Mumbai’s favourite community’s most favourite Parsi writer, had said of Mumbai in his book Family Matters – "What I feel for Bombay you will never know. It’s like the pure love for a beautiful woman, gratitude for her existence, and devotion to her living presence. If Bombay were a creature of flesh and blood, with my blood type, Rh negative – and very often I think she is – then I would give her a transfusion down to my last drop, to save her life."
I genuinely have a question to all those who still call the city as Bombay and not Mumbai.
It has been 30 years since the city is renamed as Mumbai. And still the non-native speakers insist on calling it Bombay. Some of the native speakers also go by the same name while speaking in Hindi or English. I see that in reels, filmy people conversations, college kids' conversations, and everywhere else too.
I don't really have an issue with whatever you wanna call the city but the insistence of calling it Bombay is like disrespecting the local identity and language and feelings of the original inhabitants. And though Mumbai is a cosmopolitan city, it has its own language, culture, food, identify. The local flavour needs to be RESPECTED.
And don't give me a political argument.... Some of you weren't even born when the politics around it happened. Apart from that, what is the reason?
Imagine being so ill-read that you mistake punctuation for proof of AI. Go read some books before accusing authors. I’ve been writing for 15 years and had 10 books published before ChatGPT learned to string a sentence together. The em-dash is not a problem, your stupidity is.

If Young India learns one thing from the EC protest debacle, let it be this: outrage has a price ... a price we only pay. Think! How many crores did our economy lose? How much public money was wasted? How many innocent vendors and shopkeepers lost daily wages? How many reputations were destroyed? And for what? Clicks, clout and virtue-signalling? Guys––Outrage isn’t evidence. Slogans aren’t statutes. Virality isn’t veracity. So, GenZ, protest––but protest better. Question––but question smarter. Take a stand––but stand with facts.
Can Sir @Tukaram_IndIAS clean up Mumbai’s air pollution as he did our food “pollution”? I speak to @Sonal_MK @IndiaToday.
Author @MeghnaPant has appealed to IAS officer Tukaram Mundhe to bring the same urgency to Mumbai’s air pollution crisis that he has demonstrated through enforcement in other areas.
Pant argued that the problem is not a lack of resources or regulations, but inadequate enforcement. She also questioned why the city’s hopes for action appear to rest on one officer, urging the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to take greater ownership of the pollution crisis.

"We need a @Tukaram_IndIAS for Mumbai's air quality" author and Mumbaikar Meghna Pant called for decisive administrative intervention similar to previous food hygiene crackdown.
Speaking to @Sonal_MK she expressed outrage over Mumbai's deteriorating air quality, which saw the city's AQI surpass Delhi's and touch severe levels. @MeghnaPant

"We really hope Mumbai wakes up to the issue before it is too late," says @Sonal_MK. After Delhi’s decade-long struggle with air pollution, the message to Mumbaikars is clear: don’t wait for toxic air to become an annual crisis. Act pre-emptively, enforce the rules and protect the next generation.

"This is not about a lack of money. It’s about a lack of urgency and execution," says author @MeghnaPant. As Mumbai’s air quality deteriorates, the spotlight is on the BMC, its enormous financial resources and the apparent absence of a clear action plan. Why is clean air still not a priority?

"We need to replace 'Mumbai spirit' with Mumbaikars' anger." Author @MeghnaPant says the city’s celebrated resilience should no longer mean silently accepting poor civic conditions: from pothole-ridden roads and overcrowded trains to polluted air. Is it time for Mumbai to turn its frustration into demands for accountability? @Sonal_MK brings the conversation on #5Live.

Feminism didn’t fight for centuries so women could bully a man over Rs. 300.
Threatening a gig worker with false cases because you don’t want to pay him isn’t empowerment. It’s entitlement. Women fought for equality, not the right to become the oppressor. Pay him for his work. Apologise for your unacceptable behaviour. And compensate 100x for harassment.
This city has smouldered in many ways but never like this. Almost 40 years of living in Bombay, and I swear the city has never felt this suffocated, this airless, this toxic, this close to combustion. The heat sits heavy on the chest. The air smells of burnt flesh. Buildings catch fire, it seems, almost every day - including today. I’m scared for what my children are breathing. HOW is this acceptable? Authorities, wake up. Investigate. Correct. A city cannot live on poisoned air. Our children deserve answers. They deserve clean air. They deserve to breathe.
A suicide is a tragedy, and my condolences are with the family. But there’s a difference between criticism and harassment. You can’t hold someone responsible for another person’s suicide just because they made a critical video. Suicide is far more complex than that. So, can we please let Jason LIP and Harish RIP?

I am deeply saddened, heavily grieving, shocked and frozen at what has happened and I mourn the loss of life.
I have not cyber-bullied him. I pointed out his lack of license and authority, misrepresentation of license and fraud on SEBI and AMFI where he has not got SEBI RIA for his work and misrepresented that he had an AMFI license when he got the ARN only recently. i.e., his illegal activity.
I literally asked him in the video to come back and do this with a proper SEBI license. I never intended or expected this drastic measure to happen and I mourn the loss.
In West Bengal, a land steeped in literature, debate and intellectual tradition, to see books defiled in the name of politics is shameful. We revere Saraswati, celebrate knowledge and honour our literary heritage. In an age of social media brain rot, deepfakes and misinformation, books are our antidote to dystopia. Attack books, and all you expose is your own ignorance.
Thank you, Sonakshi. Has the institution of marriage not kept up with society? I write for @DainikBhaskar - dainik.bhaskar.com/zrpmoTWFo…
I’ve always said that in today’s times, marriage is more about companionship than traditional roles and responsibilities. It’s about understanding, mutual respect, friendship and growing together as individuals. The sooner we understand this, the happier and more fulfilling our lives and relationships will be .
