When Paul wrote to the Christians in Philippi around A.D. 60, he wasn’t writing from a place of comfort and ease. He was under house arrest during Nero’s reign, facing an uncertain future. Yet in the midst of his suffering, Paul sought to encourage fellow believers—exhorting them to dwell upon what is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, and commendable. What Jesus, God incarnate, has accomplished on our behalf remains true regardless of our circumstances. Our hope does not rest in health, wealth, popularity, or political leaders, but in the unchanging reality of His sinless life (2 Corinthians 5:21), sacrificial death (1 John 4:9–10), and bodily resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:3–4). These are the truths we can return to, moment by moment, no matter what life brings. May we diligently fill our minds with God’s Word rather than the constant commentary of a world that so often opposes not only what is true, but the One who is Truth Himself. The tomb is still empty.

After reading this quote from Martyn Lloyd-Jones, my daughter thoughtfully observed, “You can’t hold on to goodness without Goodness Himself.” Yes! When we reject God as the ultimate standard of goodness, we begin defining good and evil on our own terms—even calling evil “good” and good “evil” (Isaiah 5:20). Sadly, we are witnessing the consequences of this confusion unfolding before our eyes around the world. But may we not grow weary of doing good (Galatians 6:9). May we continue walking in dependence upon the Lord, faithfully sharing the good news of what Jesus Christ has done on our behalf. The world desperately needs the gospel.

Amid a culture that promotes self-reliance rather than dependence on God, may we hold fast to His Word—our sure foundation and enduring hope. “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.” — Jesus (Mt 7:24-27)

“The sun in the heavens is everything to the natural world; and the Word of God in the heart is everything in the spiritual world. The world would be dark, and dead, and fruitless, without the sun; and what would the mind of the Christian be without the illuminating influence of the Word of God?” — Charles H. Spurgeon “More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb. Moreover, by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.” Psalm 19:10-11 📕 “With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments! I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” Ps 119:10–11 📕 “The Warnings and the Rewards of the Word of God,” Sermon No. 2135, March 16, 1890, The Metropolitan Tabernacle Pulpit, Vol. 36, p. 157 (Psalm 19:11).

Ephesians 2:1-10 📕 “And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— 3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the flesh and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. 4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

The Trinity in one verse? “If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.” Romans 8:11 “εἰ δὲ τὸ πνεῦμα τοῦ ἐγείραντος τὸν Ἰησοῦν ἐκ νεκρῶν οἰκεῖ ἐν ὑμῖν ὁ ἐγείρας Χριστὸν ἐκ νεκρῶν ζῳοποιήσει καὶ τὰ θνητὰ σώματα ὑμῶν διὰ τοῦ ἐνοικοῦντος αὐτοῦ πνεύματος ἐν ὑμῖν” New Testament Professor @Lanier_Greg shows us the evidence in just 4 minutes: youtu.be/E9_yrYyRHJQ?is=8XGt…

In His goodness, God has graciously revealed Himself through His Word so that we may know Him truly. Scripture is sufficiently clear in its essential teachings to nourish us, yet sufficiently profound to keep us studying with humility. May we remain united in the essentials, diligent in our study, and charitable toward one another when we disagree on secondary matters.
