Nobody pays you for holding a token! LP does.
You buy, it dumps. You sell, it pumps. When you just sit on the bag, nothing comes in while you wait. The life as a trader in the trenches is not easy.
As an LP it runs the other way. Your liquidity sits in a range, traders swap through it, and every swap pays you a small fee. The longer it works in your range, the more you collect.
It is not free money! When the price moves your tokens convert and you may not get back the same tokens you put in. That is impermanent loss, and it is why I only use money I am ready to lose.
