If you want designers shipping UI code, draw the ownership line first. Designers own components, states and styling. Engineers own data, architecture and the review. In my experience, skip that conversation and you end up having it in every PR.

"Designers will write messy code." Messy code usually comes from AI output nobody with taste or a system looked at closely. That's what a designer who ships brings: the UX thinking, the polish and the system the build has to fit into.

Small one from today. The light sweep on my portfolio cards had a hard edge on the left. The gradient wasn't fully transparent where its layer ended. Fixed it in the component and committed it in the same sitting. No ticket.

If this was a team project, getting things fixed would mean writing a bug ticket, waiting for it to be assigned, then reviewing later to approve. Designers that ship to prod cuts all these long processes.

Guys, please do hard things consistently. And when it starts looking easy, do even harder things.

A lot of the UI bugs I see started as design decisions that got lost somewhere between Figma and the pull request. The cheapest fix I know is letting the designer open the PR.

On my own products and at my day job, I fix those in the code myself, inside the design system and through the same review as everyone else. It's faster, and the engineers get that time back.
