I taught a political economy/policy course with a former politician. Students loved it. It works esp well when you provid analytical content that the practitioner can then build upon to show where the theory works and where it breaks down. Students end up with something great.

The political economy punchline?
Areas that voted most strongly for Leave have not suffered the largest economic costs. The correlation is weakly negative as Remain-voting areas (London, Scottish cities, university towns) bore the brunt
Brexit was a levelling up by levelling down

We explore this question and many others in our new podcast episode ‘Is ESG Woke ?’ with Julia Binder, Professor at @IMD_Bschool

🚨New paper in @NatCities🚨 Want more career mobility and access city jobs? The usual advice is to specialize in white collar skills. But our analysis of millions of worker resumes shows that the benefits of skill specialization are relative to your city nature.com/articles/s44284-0…
Interested in obstacles to fossil fuel phaseouts? I wrote a note @voxeu on labor market problems faced by fossil fuel workers.
Labor market frictions make it hard to provide new jobs. Place-based policies can mitigate the problem, but the risk of political failure is high.
