Andreas Malm banned from UK over Palestinian solidarity. Shame on this government. theguardian.com/uk-news/2026…

The Home Office has banned Swedish author Andreas Malm from entering the UK, saying his presence in the country “is not considered to be conducive to the public good”.
Malm – a climate academic and the author of How to Blow Up a Pipeline – was due to speak alongside a co-founder of Palestine Action at an event run by Tribune magazine about the impact of the ban on the group on free speech.
He told BBC Radio 4’s Today Programme on Friday morning that he could not see any other explanation for the Home Office’s decision than his scheduled appearance on the panel.
Malm said in a separate statement: “That I am prevented from going to the UK to sit on a public panel, speak to the BBC, attend an academic conference, I think it is nothing short of scandalous.”
He added: “One was under the impression that the Burnham government had slightly more respect for the basic notions of freedom of expression and other democratic rights. I appeal for this decision to be overturned.”
Malm is an outspoken critic of Israel’s genocide in Gaza who has been interviewed by Novara Media several times. In 2024, he told Novara Media’s Ash Sarkar that he had been finding it “incredibly difficult to emotionally engage with the climate question since… the genocide started”.
Irish author Sally Rooney, whose books can no longer be sold in the UK due to the Palestine Action ban, described Malm as one of “the most brilliant and influential intellectuals working in Europe today”. Barring him from the UK is “a sad and frightening act of cultural self-harm”, she said.
Tribune’s editor, Oliver Eagleton, said it was “deeply disturbing” that Malm was “seemingly being censored for speaking out about censorship”, adding that it is “now commonplace for authors and academics to be treated as terrorists because they support Palestinians facing genocide”.
Malm’s case recalls that of leftwing US commentators Hasan Piker and Cenk Uygur, who were blocked from entering the UK by Keir Starmer’s Labour government in June, also on the grounds that their presence would “not be conducive to the public good”.
Palestine Action became the first direct action group in British history to be proscribed as a terror organisation last summer. The Tribune event at which Malm was due to speak was timed to coincide with the start of a supreme court challenge to the ban on Wednesday.

- 230,000 Israelis in occupied East Jerusalem can vote, but not the 350,000 Palestinians under their rule
- The fewer than 2M Palestinians left in occupied Gaza cannot vote

Trying to understand why a prominent Tory party member organising contract killings isn’t being given wall to wall coverage. The BBC hasn’t even mentioned it on their site.
🚨🇬🇧 Turning Point UK's CEO was filmed offering an undercover reporter a menu of beatings, stabbings and killings through a Glasgow contact who says he arms the UVF
Al Jazeera’s undercover operation started in 2021 when a reporter joined the British offshoot of the American student group.
Its CEO Jack Ross, a Conservative candidate in 2023, introduced the reporter to Allan Nesbitt, a convicted criminal and self-described UVF member, agreed on camera to pay him to stage a fake pro-Zimbabwe rally, and priced out what Nesbitt’s friends could do to a person, from cutting faces to MURDER.
The UVF is the Ulster Volunteer Force, a Protestant loyalist paramilitary from Northern Ireland’s Troubles that killed over 500 people between 1966 and 1999, including 33 in one day in the Dublin and Monaghan bombings, and is still banned as a terror group.
Since the peace deal it has run mostly as a drug gang that kept the name and the guns.
Nesbitt reportedly met the reporter in a London hotel, offered to have a fictional business rival “finished,” claimed he’d personally stabbed a man to death, showed a shotgun and pistol on a video call and said the fee would buy weapons smuggled from Scotland into Northern Ireland.
Ross says it was a joke. The joke came with a price list, a weapons demo and a smuggling route, and the police now have a name and a video... and wasn't particularly funny.
Somebody in Turning Point UK’s donor base should be asking when the fundraising dinners turned into this.

"I haven't said anything about Israel"? My guy, you literally produced and starred in a Netflix show glorifying a Mossad agent.
Sacha Baron Cohen on suspicion that the calls for a boycott of his new film, 'Ali G: Who Iz I?,' are tied to his past support of Israel:
"Well, I haven’t said anything about Israel. I think people are being portrayed as things that they are not on social media and it’s problematic. We are in a world where people can’t distinguish between facts and lies, and that’s something that I’ve spent a lot of the last few years trying to fix. For example, I co-founded a group called Stop Hate for Profit with the NAACP and Color of Change and the ADL and certain other civil rights groups to stop the misinformation and incitement of racism on social media. So, I’m not surprised that prominent Jews are being targeted. I knew that this was going to happen. The level of organization is surprising, but this is a trend of Jews being portrayed in certain ways and trying to be silenced." bit.ly/4BpPgkz

The court heard three read witness statements in Russell Brand’s rape and sexual assault trial, relating to the third alleged victim and the night of the alleged rape at a Soho bar in 2004.
The first witness, who also attended the party, said he unexpectedly encountered Brand coming out of a toilet with a woman. He recalled Brand looking past him before responding dismissively when he reintroduced himself, an incident he remembered because he found it rude.
The second witness, whom the alleged victim called while waiting for a taxi, said she was distressed and sobbing. She reportedly told him Brand had either “got his dick out” or “tried to get his dick out”. He advised her to contact the police, but she said she did not want to.
The third witness, a friend of the alleged victim, said she was told: “He grabbed me, pushing me into the toilet.” The woman reportedly said Brand had attacked her and that she was confused and did not know what to do. Her friend described her as acting unusually, speaking in a monotone and seeming “off”.

With rare exception, the response to President Trump's raid of Rep. Ilhan Omar from the mainstream media’s pundit class has been largely muted, with the vast bulk of the coverage coming in the form of he said/she said, down-the-middle reporting. This is in stark contrast with how elite opinion-shapers responded with uniform outrage in the days after Trump’s also dubious raid on John Bolton.
The very day of the Bolton raid, we saw scathing editorials from the New York Times, Washington Post, and Wall Street Journal. Over the next week, each of these newspapers also published separate pieces from their opinion staff opposing the raid, casting doubt on its legitimacy, and otherwise leveling outrage at the obvious power grab. The raid was explicitly condemned in Politico, The New Yorker, and The Atlantic, which published four different indignant columns.
